Don't like losing ever but may be a godsend as less games to concentrate on premiership status - how sad is that!

Unfortunately when we do not get the desired result against WBA RM has an instant excuse with the players being tired after a 'mammoth effort' in the FA cup.

Cup is definitely half empty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He wouldn't say that. Tuesday night to Monday night.

He'd better not use that anyway!

No reason to fear the Baggies, we hit rock bottom against Hull and have been steadily improving in every game since, last night we looked more solid at the back and players are returning to form thankfully.

We're on the up.

Since start of December:
Hull (h) draw, City (a) lose, Krasnodar (h) lose, QPR (h) win, Southampton (a) lose, Stoke (h) lose, Newcastle (a) lose, Hull (a) lose, West Ham (h) draw, Man city (d) West Ham (a) lose.

D L L W L L L L D D L

Seven defeats and a single victory. 11 goals scored, 18 conceded, zero clean sheets.

Next fixtures:
West Brom (h), Palace (a), then Liverpool (h), Chelsea (a)

We will not take more than four points from those four games, and if that is the case we'll very likely be around 16th/17th come the middle of February.

Ouch.

EDIT: Still think we'll win the Europa League, so this classifies as a positive post.[/b][/b][/b][/b]

Un unbias view of last night.

Positives.

We fought like a team with heart. We didnt give up and we almost could have won it. A missed penalty from your goalkeeper just says it was not meant to be, but very good performance from the players and if we play like that every game for martinez we would be kicking our way into the top 4 no problem. Luakaku and Mirallas stepped up when we needed them and stones had another great game with Robles looking more the goalkeeper he suggested he could be at wigan.

Negatives

We still havent beaten a team which is far more worrying in our current position. To be crushed the way we went out is understandable but the need for a run of wins is growing more and more now and more dropped points next monday could be damning for us the way things are going. We need a lift badly now and a run of no wins since QPR combined with being out of the cup despite giving it everyhting we had puts us in a percarious position in the league and we need to kick on now and show this level every week and make us a team that is willing to fihgt for 90 minutes every week to make other teams fear us.

Overall pride has been restored for a lot of fans as we know our manager and more importantly our players have it in them to take it to other teams. However we still need to take the negatives and focus on each game now and not just hope but need to make certain of a win in the coming weeks. We are still nowhere near out of the woods and a dramatic goal or two hasnt changed that. But its over to the players now to show just how good they really are.

Impossible for us to have an unbiased view mate. Because we're biased.

Well good and the bad of last night :P

nOt wanting to be melodramatic about the team after they actually played for the shirt last night. Cant ask for more of them. but at the same time not going to be all positive about turning the season around on the back of it as in the bigger picture its still not turned around. So good and bad opinions all in all.

stones had another great game

lost the header before the equalizer in extra time
didnt attack valencia that much before 1-0
gave the ball away very easily in front of own goal in first half and it was pure luck that west ham did not score.

i dont think he had a great game

Would you prefer Distin back instead? Since he's come back the confidence in the back four all be it a couple of games is on the rise. Robles has also grown a pair.

Barry's passing has been terrible, lately, and he's been nowhere near last season's form. Besic is the future and his form overall is far better than Barry's. IMO.

As for Mirallas' fitness, why not start with him and sub' him if he starts to struggle. On tonight's form he could've put West Ham out of the game
by then.

Re Barry.....be that as it may and Besic is indeed the future.....but Barry was exceptional when the latter went off last night and he was largely instrumental in us dictating the game in the latter stages of the 90 minutes and the entirety of extra time.

You may want to carp, righteously, about Besic being taken off, but Barry staying on was no detriment to us last night.

Bobby's decision to keep the still recuperating ph Mirallas in reserve was more than justified inasmuch as we don't know if he would have been as effective against fresh legs from the getgo and McGeady had a very good first half, always looking our most lively attacker.

The pity is Bobby did not fetch Aiden off for Kev before the sending off.

no, we should stick with stones. i rate him higher than distin, but yesterday was not his best day.

So picking up on the individual errors, what about the good things he done? The tackles in the box?

Aslo taking into account he is young and inexperienced he had a good game. Go and pluck a different 20 year old centre half and throw him in and see if he doesnt capulate under west ham pressure. Stones will be fantastic one day sure, im happy personally to support the young players in anything they do wrong as long as its not the only thing they do in the game. Same as i havent jumped on Barkley once for not controlling games ala zidane. He may well get close to that level as he gets older but right now he is a 20 year old and needs to learn so i praise thw good things he does rather than hold him or stones accountable for single mistakes.

Whilst i agree with what your saying, i think it is important we tell the kids when they have done something wrong too. Its part of their education to take the rough with the smooth. I think Ross needs a rest to be fair and stones has just come back from injury so im willing to lay of them.

In terms of the cup game i thought the lads showed the type of fight that is befitting of a man wearing the royal blue jersey. Something we hadnt showed in recent weeks pre-city game. Big mention goes out to Joel Robles who was fantastic, many have given him a hard time recently (maybe deserved) but he stood up well last night.

Proud of the lads effort and dare i say it 'character'. Koff McGeady.........
