Stupidly just watched the highlights again.

Utterly heartbreaking (although we did ride our luck a fair bit!)

McGeady's an idiot.

Stones has such a mixed game. Some really poor parts and some great stuff too.

My brain had also blanked out Lukaku's late chance.

Gutting.
 

Last night was so Everton.

Pre-match hope.
BOSS away support.
Mindless stupidity from a player.
Somehow brilliantly clawing it back against the odds.
Then letting an absolute carthorse equalize from a set piece.
Losing on penalties, standard.
Giving a no-mark like their keeper the best day of his career.

But, at the end of it all, being left with a sense of overwhelming pride in the Blues.
Chin up lads. COYB, see you all next Monday.

Aslo taking into account he is young and inexperienced he had a good game. Go and pluck a different 20 year old centre half and throw him in and see if he doesnt capulate under west ham pressure. Stones will be fantastic one day sure, im happy personally to support the young players in anything they do wrong as long as its not the only thing they do in the game. Same as i havent jumped on Barkley once for not controlling games ala zidane. He may well get close to that level as he gets older but right now he is a 20 year old and needs to learn so i praise thw good things he does rather than hold him or stones accountable for single mistakes.

i dont condemn stones for those mistakes. he is a massive talent and i think he will have a bright future. i also wouldnt drop him because of these errors, but it must be allowed to talk about ;) .

In terms of the cup game i thought the lads showed the type of fight that is befitting of a man wearing the royal blue jersey. Something we hadnt showed in recent weeks pre-city game. Big mention goes out to Joel Robles who was fantastic, many have given him a hard time recently (maybe deserved) but he stood up well last night.

Proud of the lads effort and dare i say it 'character'. Koff McGeady.........

Yeah, exactly my sentiments. I'm not going to walk around all day picking out the negatives from last night when compared to recent weeks the fight and pride was there to win the game. When we went 1-0 down i had the thought in the back of my mind that was it, especially when mcGeady walked.

I think at a proper run club then youngsters don't always need to be told about their mistakes, they just know. I am pretty sure the average games from Ross recently has had him thinking about it long after the final whistle and kicking himself about not contributing more. YOu develop the player right and he wants to make sure he doesn't make those mistakes again.

Compare that to a few yards away and they are allowing their 20 year old to go on holiday in the middle of the season simply because htey want him to sign a new contract. Compare Ross to Raheem for a minute, which one do you think in 3-4 years time will be down to earth and working on improving himself, and which one will be going out thinking he is the dogs Bullocks no matter how well they play?

You are right about laying down the law with the young players but the last man to take that literal was Moyes and he would drop players after 3 games and put them nowhere near the first team again. At least Stones is on the pitch to learn from these mistakes and not shipped off on loan to somewhere.

Sometimes its the way you get beat that causes the most hurt. We played well last night and it looked for a while we would win it, there is nothing you can do to stop individual players like McGeady diving in on a yellow, Lukaku being tired and scuffing his shot wide in the last minute.
No manager or fan can dictate those situations, we finally started to show that we have what it takes to play our way out of this dog fight we are in.

It's taking its sweet time, and it might just be the only Final we manage this term.

What do you expect the fans to do? We showed some effort and fight last night that has been missing for the past two months (excluding the City and first West Ham game where we also put in a good shift).

The truth is that we are no longer the club we once were. We're now a more glamorous version of Villa or Sunderland. We are still in Europe which is great in my opinion, but we are now without a trophy in 20 years. Some of our fans need to face up to that and accept it.

I'm hoping we can push on from here and for me the most crucial thing for the club is keeping our best players in the summer ready to completely turn it around next season and go for what we should have been going for this season. The top 4 and a trophy.
 

I get where @McBain is coming from to be honest.

Yeah the performance was very admirable. And there's a hell of a lot of positives to take.

But we lost. And it's another possible trophy gone. Again.

Don't know about anyone else but I'd have prefered to play crap and skanked a 1-0 win to be honest.
 
ive always a few criticisms of Everton whether we win lose or draw. last night I was baffled as to why McGeady, who was as useful as a lump of wood and on a yellow, was not hauled off at HT and replaced by Kev. Also why did Barry remain on whilst Besic was taken off ? What about Kone? would he not have made an impact by replacing Naismith druing extra time? should Eto not have been even on the bench?
Also Joel was utterly useless with regard to saving penalties as the scoreline reflects. He actually dived before every pen was hit by west ham.
