Hi Guys,
I hope you do not mind me puting this messge outside the match thread for Saturday but I thought you might be interested in a West Ham fans view of saturday.
We left sunny Essex at 7:00am.
Driving up the M1 & M6 all we saw was hundreds of Manure fans traveling from Croydon up for their home game.
Arrived & parked at Stanley Park at 11:30hrs.
Went to the club shop, to buy my boy a lapel Everton badge (he collects them from every away ground he has visited). Unbelievably told that the shop didn't have any. So we ended buying one from a street vendor.
Had a quick pint in the Weatherpoons pub then went next door to the Clock to watch the early game.
It was fairly empty to start with but was totally banged out by the end. We were in our colours but the locals were very friendly & we had a good time.
Walked to the ground & was in our seats in the Paddock by 2:30.
My boy managed to get one of the training shirts that the West Ham players were wearing in the warm up, so he was well happy.
The game itself, I thought that the 1st 20 minutes or so Everton were knocking the ball about well but we were comfortable in defense. Tristan should have done better when through on Howard but was let down by his poor control. We then started to get into the game & then Kovac scored with his stunning strike. Again upto the penalty Everton were knocking the ball around but we were comfortable in defence.
The penalty, was a clear but the send off was very harsh. What disappointed me most was that Halsey never game himself time to run it through his mind. He got the card out far to fast he should have taken his time before coming to his decision.
It was the red card and not the penalty that changed the game.
In the 2nd half I thought Everton used the extra man & the width of the pitch extremley well and dragged us all over the place. Yobo's goal was disappointing as it was down to poor marking & he was left on his own making it simple for him. At 2-1 we had 2 great chance with Boa Morte & Cole to equalise. Then Everton got the winner. Pinear's turn was excellent and he put it on a plate for Saha. Through out the game Pinear was excellent & so was Baines. Everton deserved to win but the big factor was the sending off.
I was a little disappointed with the atmosphere. You Everton fans did not really start singing until 2-1 & it wasn't until 3-1 that the volume was cranked up.
Best chant of the day was our 'He's got a birds nest on his head' (to the tune of His got the whole world in his hands) to Flamini.
Got home to Essex by 9pm.
Overall, another most enjoyable trip we had a good laugh, the locals were friendly & the West Ham fans away humour was excellent (as normal). The only regret was that the referee did not give himself time to think before giving the red card.
Saying that I am a firm believer that over a season the decisions even themselves out, excpet for the top 4.
Best of luck for the cup final. All West Ham fans are behind you in that game.
