We're chit, and we're going down - but why does nobody in the media think so?

Have we gone through a period all season where we haven’t taken 4 points from 9 games? We are useless don’t get me wrong, but we have got 6 points in the last 5.

We are in the fight without doubt but I see us getting 7-8 points from the next 9. That includes a draw next Saturday

Do not be mislead by the nine games scenario, wigs.

Two of those games are home to RS and City.

We can discount those two.

Four of those games are away......we have lost the last five away and in fact have won just once away from home in the past fourteen months.

So don’t be banking on any great return there.

IMO and in the opinion of others round these parts, our season boils down to three games.....home to Brighton, Saints and Barcodes.

Brighton are coming here with their tails up after beating Arsenal and moving above us in the league.

No room for complacency there.

Now, I reckon we will be safe all right.....but if we fail to win next Saturday then there us going to be much nail biting in Evertonia over the next two months :(

Realistically we'll probably nick a couple of draws. So we're talking one more win.

No complacency here mate honest, I think we are in for a battle.

I actually think we will draw Brighton and stoke and the lose the 3 after. But will then beat Soton and the Barcodes plus a draw at Huddersfield and lose Wham. 9pts

I just think the bottom 4 won’t get the 12/13 points to really threaten us.

We are all down and therefore see the worst side of things. A win on Saturday changes it again.

Oh for sure ;)

A fickle lot, us football fans

Honestly think we'll be in the bottom 5. I can't see where we're going to get 3 points from. Hoping we have enough between our teeth to rack a few points on the board and maybe put up a fight in the bigger games so as to avoid any more of a snowball effect on our morale.

I remember this song being sung quite often during our terrible years in the 90s, with but "you're" instead of "we're", and another word instead of "chit".

I genuinely don't get how literally all of those in the media are talking as if we're safe and will be in the Premier League next season. Have they not seen our form? Do they not see we only realistically have three games left we can win this season? Forget all away games and forget City and Liverpool at home, our only winnable games now are Brighton, Newcastle and Southampton at home. We're quickly being sucked into the relegation mix and seemingly everybody in the media is oblivious to it?

Why?
I think it's a combination of the fact that a.) 6+ points in the next 9 should be very achievable even for us, and b.) a number of the teams below us are arguably worse still.

I genuinely don't get all this optimism. Have people not been watching us this season? Talking as if it's a given that we'll win our home games against non top six sides. It's the same weird assumption that's being made in the media, like there's nothing to worry about because we'll get enough points somehow. We're absolutely appalling, I'm concerned for every single game we go into.
Well to be fair mate that's what we've been doing for most of the season, regardless of how crap we are in general.

Looking back over the PL's history, on average 37 points actually is enough to stay up in 17th place. No guarantees of course, but one win or even three Allardyce bore draws are likely to keep us up.

So in summary, in spite of how utterly pathetic we have been this year, it would take a monumental collapse (i.e. losing almost every game) from this position to be relegated. Hence why the "experts" in the media think we will stay up.
