This is my first post from my (forced upgrade as my old cpu and motherboard died horrible deaths) brand spanky new PC. Got myself one of those new-fangled Intel Core 2 Duo processors that utilize the new 45 nano-meter die's. (These are from the plant I almost got a job at!). Smaller die's mean less power which mean less 'trons creating heat so the can squeeze waaaay more speed out of them.
So really, this post is for the computer geeks (like myself) to ooo and ahhh at.
I got the E8400 (Wolfdale core) that runs at 3.0Ghz, that I currently have OC'ed to 4.2Ghz on AIR!!! An Arctic Freezer 7 heat sink & fan, 2 Gig of Corsair XMS DDR 6400 ram at 5-5-5-15 timings and a funky colourful Giga-byte S-series mobo.
I previously had an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ that ran at 2.2Ghz and did not OC well. This E8400 pisses all over it. ALL OVER IT! Night and day difference.
This is also my first post from my new OS, Windows Vista Home Premium. When I reinstalled my *ahem* copy of Windows (XP Professional and Server 2003) they both popped up the old "This copy of Windows is a counterfeit" blah-de-blah-de-blah. So I thought I would go legit for a change
and get Vista in light of the first service pack is just around the corner to fix all the problems. I have heard all the horror stories of Vista, but I have also heard lots of good things, and so far I have had NO issues at all, with any of my old software or hardware. None. I am impressed.
To showcase my wicked PC, it goes from hitting the power switch to Vista ready to roll in 22 seconds, gets the new Windows Index score of 5.9 (out of 5.9), drops just under 20,000 in 3dMark (I still have a 7 series GeForce running the graphics).
The best part........the price! All this crap comes in at the same price as the gear it replaces! The E8400 is slightly more expensive than the chips it is replacing, the E6X50 chips (and gets ~10% improvements when running at the same clock speeds), the mobo was dirt cheap, the RAM was dirt sheap and I got Vista for CHEAP as I bought a system builder OEM pack! Beautiful stuff.
NOw all I need to do is get into World of Warcraft and I could be an Uber-geek
(not gonna happen)
