Of course he rinsed us for severance pay, hardly cowardice, who in the right mind is going to dodge a multi million pound pay out by resigning.
Seriously how often have you known a manager to resign and forgo a pay off other than when they're leaving for another club.
I'm not condoning it merely pointing out awaiting the sack is the done thing.
