I think Koeman organised the team well last year. It was enough to give them a decent finish anyway after such a poor start. Therefore you have to conclude he is not completely to blame here, the chairman, board, director of football, manager, coaching staff and ultimately the players all have to take a collective responsibility. Post Lukaku within the club it was agreed that the goals could be spread around the team. They did not therefore need a ready made, 20 goals a season, striker, which is incredibly hard to purchase In the premiership unless you are a top four club. Rooney struggles at this level now, which was obviously underestimated during pre-season. If you then pair this with the poor recruitment of extremely overpriced personnel, too many of which play the same position and neglecting to rebuild the swiftly aging defense you have a perfect storm on your hands. Suddenly players get confused regarding their instructions, they lose faith in their colleagues abilities to protect a lead, confidence drains. Players don't want to admit they are finished. Some drop their levels as the stress of failure is too much to bear such is their fragile egos. They just want to sneak out the back door and get another chance to succeed elsewhere. Everton have a chairman along with the board, who has been unable to acquire/attract the level of player required to succeed and push on post Lukaku. The Director of football may have unearthed some future gems but on the current field his recruitment has been disastrous. The search for a new manager has dragged on in a disturbing manner which makes you wonder what their plans are. I think Everton will get relegated unless they somehow take drastic emergency action. They need to get rid of the first team staff/coaches/DOF and bring in a fresh approach altogether, a brand new team. It will have to be a defensively minded manager whom has a knack for man management. It's vital the players respect the new manager as Everton need stability right now and a plan of escape. There is no time for pointing fingers, apathy or needless protest. Everyone needs to find a way to galvanise as Everton have a massive battle in the coming months. I hope this great club survives, I really do.
