Southall every day best I have seen , and I have seen a few good ones Shilton. Jennings,Banks, Clemence who wasn't to bad either would have said all of those as good if not better than Schmeichal

My top Britsh goalies would see Nev level pegging with or ever so slightly ahead of Shilton, then Banks, Jennings, Clemence and West.

There's been so many more though, more than honourable mentions off the top of my head for Wilson, Parkes, Montgomery, McFaul, Corrigan, Stepney, and Sprake.

For the older footie fans, for a small 'un, Eddie Hopkinson was a superb keeper for Bolton and England.

Tried to do some searching about pre PL era keepers. It was quite hard actually. All I got was PL stuff.

He picked up the ball from a backpass and hoofed it downfield most of the time.
Same with most goalies of the era

Just telling it as it is

The first role of a goalie is to prevent the opposition scoring, all this modern day hang up over goalies and their distribution skills is nonsense.
Give me Neville Southall over that Bravo clown every day of the week and twice on a Sunday.

Banks was before my time. Of the others you mentioned I would prefer Southall and schmeichal who I rate about equal.

All good in there own diffrent times ect as a kid i used to love watching jennings thought he was brilliant.
Banks was a great shot stopper, not sure if my memory is going but i am sure he played with one eye blinded later on in his carreer.
Southall was one of the few i have seen who was the best in the world at the time.
