While I may have some of the same disagreements as others, your ratings are basically sound.

Rodwell or Gosling could become a positive surprise this year, with any luck.

We do need some more big grins, and we need some more height. Without Arteta and Cahill towards the end last season, we looked like a much different team than we had in November and December. In that respect, your original thesis: "wafer thin" is spot on.

If we could get four more big grins, have Gosling or Rodwell step up and get two more smilies in - which is pretty much what you suggest - I would feel much better about this coming season.

As soon as the signings start rolling in mate then we'll all be more positive. They squad will be getting back together soon so I expect we'll then see the more serious transfer rumours.

mcfadden, stubbs and carsley.

so we need to buy 3 players just to get back to that squad size.

To be fair though, those are 3 players I'm glad are finally gone from the squad, Carsley and Stubbs, good players in their time, but age had caught up with them.

So basically what I'm saying is, even if we only bring 3 in to replace those players alone, then the squad should be better equipped than last year.

I would be very surprised thought if Moyes brought up to 6 players in, he does have a history of only making small changes to the squad, so I can only see 4 tops, if that to be honest.
