Once again getting pelters from some. He does what he does really well. Always has good games against Salah, Saka etc. Has made some mistakes at the back post recently, but defended well tonight for the most part.
Because he isn’t Baines or even Digne does not make him crap. Clearly not a modern full back. But if we unearthed a LB that was a fantastic 1v1 defender, and like a winger going forward, we’d get one season out of them before they went to a CL team.
His time should be coming to an end with us. But people’s inability to credit him for being pretty excellent at his narrow skillset is frustrating.
Issue for me is the lack of an attack focussed RB. We have had years to accept what Myko is good at and acquire a RB that bombs forward, letting Myko tuck in. Yet we keep playing CBs at right back and that’s fine and Myko’s fault

won a tackle towards the end of the second half last night superbly, and celebrated it like he'd won the World Cup. As limited as he can be, it shows how important it is, especially defensively, to not have a square peg in a round hole in specific positions.

I think he's not good enough for a team wanting Europe because he's simply nowhere near as effective or capable in the final third. Any top team nowadays has flying full backs.
He can still play a role though because you don't need to be attacking in every game.
As long as one of our two full backs is capable of effectively 'bombing on' and playing well with the winger ahead of them, that's ok.
But we really should be buying two new full backs so that the manager has options down both flanks depending on the level of opposition.
