Transfer Rumour Virgil van Dijk

I think theres a chance personally.

A very, very small chance, but he knows the gaffer, he likes the gaffer, we can compete wages wise with most clubs, we can offer him a first team spot, we can give him a platform, its all about the project.

He signed a 6 year contract, THEN he changed agents.

The only thing we cant offer is European football, which is pretty big, it should never be overlooked, its what every single player desires.
he should have stayed at celtic then

But Esk said so

Interesting that you'd have such an opinion of Esk when you only signed up here on Wednesday.....

Isn't it up to him to enthuse us and make a fist of it to get us on board? He's made it plain what he thinks of this club: he sees it as a stepping stone for our players, and his demeanour suggests he too thinks he's a cut above us (which if you really want to know is the core of my problem with him - who the 'kin hell does this feller think he's being employed by here? We were pioneering football when his beloved Ajax and Barcelona were begging for mediocre English, Scottish and Irish coaches to teach them how to kick a ball straight).

As said, I'll never call or get behind a call by others to sack him almost no matter what happens in his first season, but there is a cut off point for that and it's autumn next season as far as I'm concerned. A season and third is easily enough time to get things on track...many new managers hit the ground running. But his football is turd and I dont think in the intervening period between now and next autumn that should go unsaid.

Simple as that really. No hypocrisy on my part whatsoever.
Off topic yet again David.

I would like Virgil but not for £45m.

That money could get you any one of the athletico centre backs (minus savic because I don't rate him) @Bulgarian toffee
I would be tempted to spend £45m on a couple of players like Blind, depay and a goalkeeper.
I don't know with this market mate.
My explanation is that almost every team that wants to achieve something has one beast of a centre half that they build their defense around for a period of 5+ years. Probably VVD has been identified as such by our management and they want him so badly as to be willing to give such money.
As for Atletico centre backs - I know who I want. The boy is an absolute beast and if we can get him for like 30-35 mln , I will be over the moon.

Think there's very slim chance of this happening to be honest. Ignoring for a minute the fact that he'd also have interest from the teams above us, there's very little chance that Southampton would actually sell him in this window barring an astronomical fee.

I mentioned him to a couple of red colleagues today and they wrote it off straight away saying that we had no chance. I'm inclined to agree with them, but I'd absolutely love it if we somehow managed to sign him based on this alone.
