Some quality answers and opinions already.
What was everyone's opinion on the Serena Williams row so far i think all this PC culture is only gonna get worse.
And yes as i stated in opening post Rugby Union has some quality ideas and i am amazed we still dont use them as standard bearers where its applicable.

i know people will laugh at this but i could solve most of footballs issues today if i walked into the job tomorrow.

Football's main issue is cheating and deceit, the following rules would just banish it fairly quickly:
  1. A review panel which reviews every game and hands out a 3 game ban to anyone diving. This doesn't mean people who fall over without any contact made, this relates to any time a player gets touched and makes the most of the contact. Imo, if the contact doesn't hinder you in any way, it's not a foul, football is supposed to be a contact sport. Yes this would be very messy at the start but over time you would see an end of players just falling over because of the minimalist of touches to get themselves out of a tricky situation.
  2. VAR in to eradicate these dives in the match itself too. Red card straight away for diving, regardless of how sinister. VAR should also be used for other main aspects of the game too where the ref feels they need to check things. Most controversial decisions these days are born out of players cheating in the first place.
  3. Stop the clock. I mean can it be that hard to just stop the clock every time the ball goes out of play? There's so much moaning that goes on about team's time wasting at every goal kick, managers moaning about how many minutes are added on etc. Let's actually give fans the 90 mins they pay for, not the embarrassing 55 mins of actual play they're getting served.
  4. Only the captain can speak to the ref unless others are spoken too. What is the actual point of designated captains right now? all 11 players are shouting and talking to the ref, the manager is doing the same from the sidelines. This would see an rise in referee performance because they won't be so pressurised every time they have to make a 50/50 call.
  5. Make the champions league an actual tournament just for champions ffs, it's a load of crap. And have a cup winner's cup with a 2nd tier european league in between for those who finish 2nd and 3rd in europe's leagues. No country should have more than 4 teams in europe, it's ruined the glamour of it all seeing the same teams season in season out.
  6. Bring back intentional hand ball as a rule, at least it gives the ref some control over whether they think it's intentional. Right now they have to decide on a multitude of different factors in real time whilst having no time to properly assess what's gone on because they have to keep refereeing the game as it goes on.
Like i said, people will probably laugh at me, but i have no experience in managing anything but i can see the sport is a mess. Those in charge make ridiculous decisions, they just make rule changes for the sakes of it, look at the three below, how in any way has it improved the game:

  1. Changing penalty shootouts to ABBA - why? just what were they thinking?
  2. 3rd place CL teams going to the europa - again, why? why is a team being rewarded for failure?
  3. Those stupid extra officials behind the goal - why? it's been in place years and i've still never seen any of them make a call. I was at wales v ireland and a corner was given when it was clear as day it was a goal kick, the official behind the goal had the best view, but he was stood the wrong side of the post so couldn't see anyway. And i'm pretty sure he was the same side of the pitch as the actual linesman!

think she was just a sore loser who had a meltdown. Playing the sexist card is just stupid and she has no real evidence to back it up, she was continually warned and didn't listen.

Hey Guys and Gals.

Genuine Post of intrigue here i have been looking at a lot of Interactions with Refs/Umpires in general and am very interested in everyone's general views on it as some of the discussions have been top notch on here past few days.
In light of the whole Serena Williams Claiming Sexism (I thought her actions where Bratty and Disgusting) and how the Umpire was treated when he seemed to just uphold the rules got me thinking about what people think the best System of Refs/Umpires is in any sport really and how they are or should be spoken too on the field or court of play.

My Humble opinion is that Rugby Union seems to have the smoothest and most respectful Refereeing in terms of Officiating the game.

I know its a little off topic and dont expect to get any replies but feel free to discuss i just think that Refereeing in general is a tough tough Discipline mostly.
No. it is a job that can be done. Trouble is in football it is populated these days by refs with egos bigger than their ability or the corrupt. A famous derby notable for a Liverpool bias proved to me that English refs can be corrupt. It was not refs errors it was as my mate said as we were leaving.. sinister. Most of them are rubbish or dodgy. World Cup showed how good they can be and how awful ours are.

Cricket umpires amazingly get LBW calls correct when a small ball is travelling at a ridiculous speed towards a blur of bat and pad. Football referees with a team of officials get decisions on throw ins and corners wrong even when they’re absolutely blatant. I’d have football at the bottom of any list as I think it’s one of the few sports where officiating with an agenda is actually accepted e.g ‘you don’t get those sort of calls at Old Trafford/Anfield’. A decision should be the same regardless of the team it’s aginst and regardless of which minute of the game it is.

Hats off to golf for being a sport that largely governs itself.

Nice idea in theory, but how exactly do you determine if someone has taken a dive? I acknowledge often it is blatant but in other situations where there was some contact, how do you determine whether it was sufficient to cause the player to go over?

zero chance mate. too much money

for mine I would get rid of all European club comps bar the CL. There isn't an good reason why the 6th best team in a season needs to be playing for another trophy.

Maaaaate! Spare a thought for all the long suffering AFL fans! We've got SEVEN of the buggers on the ground!!!!

Now imagine how consistent they are...

Diving should be straight red, the 4th official should be able to view incidents while the game is played to avoid interruption. Game carries on and if , even 10 moms later the 4th official has seen enough replays to come to a conclusion that a player has dived, next break in play , radio the red and the player walks.

Same with dirty challenges and if a player has been sent off and replays show that he shouldn’t, the team should be allowed to come back on. Or even any red card must be reviewed by the 4th official and both him and the red need to agree on it .

All ideas I agree with, though I'm less fond of the idea of stopping the clock.
The main issue is the obscene amount of money in the game so what you suggest will not happen. All your proposals make it much, much harder for bent refs to pass off their decisions as simple mistakes. The game is utterly bent, it's why Fifa held away from var for so long.

Get rid of sky et al, (persuade people not to subscribe) reduce the cash, reduce the 'obligation' to cheat to make sure the perceived 'top drawer' same old clubs are always there and we just might have a sport on our hands again.

At that point my interest in pro football might return.

Gobbing off at the ref .....yellow or red card according to severity of obscene language used
Blatant diving .......red
Feigning injury to stop an opposition attack .....off the pitch and straight to hospital
Doing a stupid Fortnite dance after scoring .....instant dismssal , lifetime ban from football
Dele Alli doing that stupid hand-thingy .....punch in the face off the ref , and told to " Stop being a tit "

If all refs adhered to these rules ;)

So your solution is essentially to suspend stars more, and for 3 games... which is ridiculous. Give more yellows and in turn more suspensions. More automatic reds, which are more suspensions. Just suspensions, suspensions, suspensions.

To stop the clock and make games 3+ hours.

To get rid of the champions league, and minimize instead of maximize match ups between inter league big clubs and stars. Which if your other rules were passed, probably wouldn't matter anyways since half of them would be in the midst of serving their 3 game ban. Or one for an automatic red, or accumulated yellows. Plus, instead of watching teams park the bus for 1 and a half hours, we can watch them do it for 3 hours.

Congrats, you found a way to completely ruin the game and make it look perfect as is.
