VAR

I loved watching football as a kid with my dad. I’d say this would be the late 70’s and the 80’s. No VAR. Now, it just kills the spirit of the game and essence of the rules it’s trying to enforce. If you need a laser line drawn on a tele to see offsides, don’t use it. Go with the on-field call. Same with trips and tugs and pulls in the box. Sometimes, advancement isn’t really that at all.

Wouldn't be surprised if the referee, knowing he's had a shocker and had the fans on his back for allowing United to foul at will all game, awarded the penalty knowing that it was never actually going to be a penalty as his VAR team would help him out and let him reverse it.

Basically he's decided the outcome of the game single-handedly.

Check his bank statements, and his hard drive.

They are terrified the "brand" is being damaged by United being crap.

They don't fear relegation, but with City imploding they need United back for the brand.

How the ref was only shown one angle - the one without the shirt-pull - is the question here.

We all know the answer.

Yep. This is the crux of it.

It’s not mere incompetence.

Until the clubs DEMAND a change, then VAR corruption wont change. Those in the booth have no incentive to show some ethics until they are forced to, and have made it patently obvious in recent years where they stand. They arent hiding it at this point, they just dont think they are touchable no matter what they do.

It reminds me of when we were home to man utd a previous time where martial was booked for a dive. VAR then extensively looked at it. A guy with a manc accent came on VAR and said it was a foul. On that occasion Martial put his left leg out looking to initiate contact but VAR used their indescretion to find a foul

There is no pretence now. They are cheats and/or not fit for purpose.

Plus, they are not using it in the way it was meant to be. It is meant to be clear and obvious. It is a joke, that is the most angry I have been for a long time.

Beto's goal, looked obviously OK after 20 seconds, they look and try to see if there is a tiny touch, then go back to an earlier ball and check that (using a stupidly inconclusive angle) for a minute.

Palace's goal last week, again obviously a goal after one view but we had 5 minutes of checks, why? Are they really that incompetent?

VAR Check for them today, takes 10 seconds, wouldn't have even known a check was made if the commentator hadn't have mentioned it.

The Branthwaite handball shout, clear after one or two views that it hits him in the face and then his shoulder, with both arms down by his side. OK, this was a bit quicker but there was still far too many views of it, that any self respecting official wouldn't need.

It doesn't work. It doesn't matter how good the system is. Half the refs in this sport don't know what they're doing and the other half are blatantly corrupt. Its just a shield to mask their gross incompetence and corruption.
