VAR & rule changes next season...

Hope we don't get on too many decisions that go against us next season...

Players must be more aware in the box both defence & attack...
Think you'll see a lot more penalties given (both for handball and holding) and a lot fewer clean sheets. It will make set pieces a lot more important too.

The important thing is not to complain about the new rules but to embrace them. They are coming in anyway.

We need to get a penalty taker sorted. Gylfi misses far too many. And we need to practice set pieces, both offensive and defensive. And we need to stop giving away needless free kicks around the box, something we actually improved quite a bit towards the end of last season.

Mina could be massive for us next season.

Managers will also play a key part...

They will be in the 3rd officials ear if they see anything untoward leading up to a goal...

Maybe more high profile managers will have more influence there also....

The keeper must keep on his line till the ball is kicked when a penalty is being taken...

Var will order the kick to be re-taken if keeper moves off his line before ball has been kicked & penalty has been saved....

Pickford take note please...

...yep, that’ll take a bit of getting used to.

Premier League have said they won’t use VAR to check for that.

Handball rule has changed, nothing to do with VAR though. IFAB change rules every year and handball is one.
Yes but it's coincided with the strict use of VAR on these incidents. Time was ball to hand was considered in these cases and the refs decided, whatever the case the rule is too harsh in my view. Just because a ball hits your hand doesn't make it a foul. Just because your left toe nail is ahead of an attacker it doesn't make you offside. What happened to advantage to the attacker? What happened to daylight? Do we want less goals? It's mostly anality and pedantry that doesn't improve the game. Clear and obvious mistakes fine I am glad they will be corrected, even review goals and red cards fine, but football isn't a game of natural stops and starts like Cricket and Tennis and decisions are more subjective at times. They appear to be applying a kind of stringency that is fussy.

Actually if your left toenail is ahead of the defneder then yes it is offside. There is no interpretation of offside, it is either onside or offside. Like the ball being over the line, it either is over or it isnt.

Handball's a tricky one really though, Sissoko in CL final was pointing to his teammate to defend an area but his arm was up.

No issue with VAR used for offsides as its a factual thing, but the concern is as you point out regarding handball.

But who actually calls for VAR involvement? The ref himself? It should be just the ref, so he can satisfy himself he saw what he thought he saw.........or missed. We can’t have every ex-RS at Sky calling for it for every tiny incident, the game will take hours. It remains to be seen if VAR reveals any diving in the box by you-know-who, and whether it will result in bookings? As if......

Is it though? Goal line technology is good. But they've changed the offside rule many times and personally if someone is in line its enough for me. What happened to clear daylight? Getting a ruler out and checking exactly is pedantry but that's my opinion. For instance the goal England scored recently was a goal in my view and would have been 9/10 before VAR. And the one Sterling scored against Spurs was very marginal. Was offside originally about being exacting? It was originally about advantage, your left toenail being offside isn't an advantage is it? Yes handball worries me. It also annoys me that the joy of celebration may be ruined at times by a VAR check and we may see long delays to games.

VAR should only be used for offsides decisions (or stupidly obvious handballs that are missed- not the horrible ball to hand calls that result in pentalties that I’ve seen from some VAR decsions). They will use it for debatable calls and get it wrong every time.

I know that’s what’s being followed in the women’s World Cup but I thought I read the premier league won’t be using VAR to review it for taken penalties and they’ll rely on the referees to manage/review/police it?
