VAR & rule changes next season...

Not covered its self in glory in the womens world cup.
I get the impression that VAR are in the Reffs ear telling him what they see on their 6? screens

This is wrong

The Reff controls the game - VAR is there for when The Reff asks...
Did I see what I thought I saw.
for instance
Is it true what the players are saying, the ball was over the line
Was he offside when the linesman flagged him
Etc.

Edit. How long before say, sky get involved, because 'this occurred'...or didn't and it is no good for ratings
Like when we beat Spurs in the semi and ruined the 'TVs dream final' of Untd Vs Spurs

It was meant to be for clear and obvious errors but now they seem to be looking at everything with microscopic detail. Also the handball rule seems to have changed (what happened to intent??!)and offsides seem to always go against attackers now. Football isn't a stop start game but we could see long delays. I have a bad feeling about VAR. It needs to be used only when necessary.

Another thing so far 95% of the time I have seen a ref go to a screen they have given it. It's almost like the fact its referred to the screen and that they look at it so many times that they are influenced to give the decision. It skews the game really.

Apparently it will get shown on replays on the big screen at every ground with them. The only two grounds with no big screens?
Anfield and old Trafford. Make of that what you will.
This just also allows for excuses to be made by fans, like that lot don’t have enough already, especially when a dodgy decision goes their way, can just hear it all now, well VAR didn’t show it, havnt seen it.

I don't see why they go to the screen. The var team should give it and inform the ref. The linesmen give stuff all the time, hell the fourth official can even give something but they guy with the tv showing him what's happened can't give anything. Bloody stupid to me.

....eventually this will be a good thing. There will be an immediate level playing field for the straightforward decisions (offside, inside or outside the box), and ultimately more consistent definition and interpretation of penalty decisions.

There will certainly be more penalties for and against next season. Any ball hitting the arm, defenders who grab shirts and block forwards at set pieces will be penalised. They will have to stop doing it and eventually strikers will have more freedom. The game will change significantly in the next 5 years and I think it’ll be all the better for it.

VAR merely throws it over to the select few in the 'var booth' to make a judgement call and tell the ref to review it.
The ref fundamentally has the final say so nothing changes in that respect.

And for what its worth, do you really feel the 'top sides' will suffer because of VAR?
Personally not a chance, any potential dubious call will just been reviewed with the ref having the final say and/or any VAR call that deems the ref missed something will merely lead to the refs going with VAR.

Only have to look at certain incidents during the World Cup - handballs that the ref brushed aside, were suddenly reviewed and given as pens, same with borderline fouls. It doesn't cut out inconsistency, it merely adds another layer of blame and confusion - end of the day its opinion based calls so it down to however runs the VAR and if the ref chooses to go with them.

For what its worth you only have to look at Danny Murphy being part of the 3 man team regarding Niasse - thats not to suggest someone of clear bias would be involved but you get the idea.

Offside goals and mistaken identity I can agree with because thats cut and dry -which is a reason why goal-line technology works- you are either offside or not, you are either the right player or not. Easy calls, not open.
That said offside is now becoming increasingly over analyzed to the millimeter. Of after watching numerous replays you then make a call, its 'not clear and obvious' - so I'm not really a fan with how its been used.

Get the basics of football right first - foul throws (biggest joke in football the amount of foul throws, yet in kids football you're told to crack down on it when they start playing offside), '6 second rule', time management, gaining yards, then start implementing VAR - as for all VAR is it won't change the standard of referee; if anything it will just make them lazier.

My concern is that "contact" will just become the reason to give a foul, regardless of circumstance. It will lead to more theatrical diving after the merest of glancing blows and more games decided on goals from the resulting free kicks and penalties.

TV ratings will soar as the ignorant of the rules debate whether something was "deserved" or not...

Is it used for free - kick offences though mate.

Just think every goal scored against the Sky top six will be scrutinised to death and the goals they score not as much.
The ridiculous rule change involving where the ball hits your hand, accidental or not, just allows cheats to kick the ball at you in the area. Mane is already a grand master at this, be prepared for a lot more Liverpool penalties.
Only change for me that's been beneficial to the game in my opinion, is the goal line technology. :) Thank god for that.
