I don't know if you've managed to catch the documentary about police officers being attacked in the UK (about 3 in Walton, netherton etc) that's just recently aired, and the pathetic justice that's supposingly metered out on the culprits....bizarrely none...

As much as some people will happily throw all officers under a bus, 99% of these people are here to stick themselves on the line when called for without thought for their own safety.
But watching this documentary then seeing the pathetic, and more often, non-sentence given to any bellends who attack these officers, who on the whole when the chips are down are the only option to help and sometimes save many people's lives, the pathetic justice system is a joke.

I'm not gonna pretend I'm perfect and on occasions I've been pulled and thrown out off away grounds for being drunk and stupid, but each time there is not one iota in me that would imagine to try and fight a copper. Even when, as some in here who go aways could testify too... certain police forces can be a tad overbearing..,.. (greater Manchester, Newcastle, city of london...)

But to the original point if your soft on the people who defend you , your soft on crime ..,... Full stop.... Serious proper time for recidivists plus the same for officers attacked in the line of duty....

Hear hear. Good to read support for the police.

Hope these girls get the justice they deserve. Cowardly scum need to be made an example of.

People complaining on Twitter that culprits have ‘only’ been arrested on the grounds of AGGRAVATED assault and not ‘hate crimes.’

This is part of the problem.
 
People can talk about the sentences all they want, I'm sure politicians will as well. It's all a smoke screen with the pretense of being tough on the crime, if you want to be tough on it attack hate speech, attack racism, attack homophobia and work on changing peoples attitudes and preventing future attacks. Hate crime is rising and trans people in particular are the most acceptable target of these people, hate speech has been monetized by the likes of crowder, shapiro, hopkins etc and facilitated by empty headed idiots like rogan and the 'free speech' 'anti-pc' brigade. Whether this attack is a direct result of such speech or just random bellends I don't know, but I do know huge amounts of my friends who would consider themselves part of the LGBT community feel that these people are putting a huge target on them everyday
 
It's just not surprising though is it? The country is full of small minded knobheads who are given a platform and empowered by social media and the like. If you don't fit neatly in to these peoples sexist, racist and xenophobic views you are attacked or told to go back to your own country. Seriously this country is an utter disgrace from top to bottom.

Is it that detection rates have greatly improved though? There’s a far higher awareness of that kinda nonsense nowadays - oddly watching Superbad from 12 years ago right now and the amount of homophobic remarks wouldn’t fly nowadays.

Well I found 2 girls being beaten up by 4 or 5 lads pretty surprising.

But that said, I totally agree with the tenor of your post.

On the detection part, I honestly don't know. The two trans ladys in america last week were definitely killed though, these lesbian girls were definitely attacked. If there's more awareness and more open disdain then great, but lets keep that going. I think we can all view attitudes, programs etc from maybe 50 years ago when racism was more acceptable, 30 years ago when homophobia was more acceptable. You like to think society improves and we constantly more forward and progress, maybe I'm just a bit down about the state of things but these last 4 or 5 years for the first time in my life I feel like society has took step backwards in the imagined form of campaigning for 'free speech'.

I'm not sure on the content of superbad as I've only seen it once (I liked it for the record), but I would say that context is important when defending things as a joke or representing the past etc, Look at how often the N word was used in hateful 8, but I don't consider it a racist movie. Maybe Hollywood is cleaning up it's act but platforms like youtube, which are monitized, have regular homophobic content from rats like crowder that garner millions of views. The walnut brained rogan giving scum like alex jones and gavin mcinnes huge and very positive platforms to promote themselves, this stuff contributes to attitudes. I mean I certainly don't have the answers but these people are in my eyes definately part of the problem, and the end goal is to change attitudes and educate towards acceptance as that's what will ultimately make the difference, not harsher sentences or grand gestures of punishment.

Walken, While there is much that I agree with in the above post, does it not cross your mind, bearing in mind that the first example you use is 'hate speech', that hate speech could apply to most of the posts you make on this site. Particularly, free use of the term 'racist' which appears as an accusation in almost all your posts. You use it against individuals (particularly Tories) when you have no way of knowing whether an individual is racist or not. 'Practise what you preach' comes to mind.
