Exactly! Practical effects are far too underutilized these days. Makes me sad.Give me practical stunts and animatronics any day of the week over CGI.
Just look at how much better the recent Mad Max, Chris Nolan films and the original Jurassic Park looks than the turgid stuff they roll out nowadays
I think it's all subjective mate.
First time with Prometheus, I was really disappointed, as I expected so much more.
However, having watched it many times since then, I've come to really like it.
It was just a little bit too much to get your head round, on first viewing.
I'm expecting similar with this film.
I think if you take it out of the alien franchise, and think of it as a standalone film, it's decent, minus a few silly things (like Theron's character running straight when the ship is rolling straight etc). Visually, I think it's a stunning film.
Have to say that bit with theron running straight is as bad as in game of thrones not zig zagging!! I screamed at the tv on that bit!
Yeah and then a rock saves her. A ROCK stops a ship that's weiģhs tonnes!!Yeah, while I enjoyed Prometheus the first time, it has gotten so much better with further viewings.
Especially as Elizabeth takes a last second tumble and ROLLS out of the way. Rolls FFS!!!!
Well, this time tomorrow, I will have just got back from seeing Alien: Covenant.
I hope I like it.
Like the best zombie movies, the Asian hit blends monsters with metaphor, but since the film is in a foreign language, it looks like Train to Busan will be the latest Korean film to get an English-language retread.
Studios like Fox, Sony, and Studiocanal all wanted a crack at the project, but eventually, a French company called Gaumont won the rights. Despite the fact that Gaumont is based just outside Paris, the Train to Busan remake (which will obviously get a new title) will be set in the U.S., although we don't know who's starring or directing. Nevertheless, the folks at Next Entertainment World (the original film's distributor) hope the American remake will help "Korean films get more attention." And as it's the country behind films like Oldboy and Snowpiercer, we're cool with South Korea getting as much attention as possible.

However, while the original Raid is a martial arts extravaganza, director Frank Carnahan plans on getting grittier with his upcoming remake. The director of films like Narc and The Grey, Carnahan is teaming up with actor Frank Grillo (The Purge: Election Year, Captain America: The Winter Soldier) to create a more realistic version of Gareth Evans's original film.
Talking with Collider, Carnahan explained the main character of his film could be described as the "walking wounded." As he put it, his Special Forces protagonist (Grillo) will be suffering from all sorts of injuries from years of combat, so don't expect the original's insane choreography. Instead, Carnahan and Grillo promise the entire film will feel like "the knife fight between Adam Goldberg and the German in Saving Private Ryan."

I cant think of any off hand, even remakes of older films tend to lack any real substance, looking at assault on precinct 13,the second ghost busters was dire,Id say TV is superior to any hollywood blockbusters nowdays, obviously with series theres a lot more scope to develop characters and plots so they have an advantageHave their been any Hollywood remakes that actually improved the original? The Departed was good (despite Nicholson's performance), but not a patch on the source material imo.

I enjoyed it. One more thing that splits people who have no seeming ability to give credit or criticism where it is due. It is either the greatest movie or the worst movie. For me, it was a 7/10. Definitely things that they could have done better, but I was overall happy with the movie. My son bought me a ticket to go with him this weekend.
