Unusual hobbies

A teacher of mine at high school once gave an entire lesson explaining how he spent his weekends doing grave rubbings.

Most times it seemed the cemetery were fine with it, but some would say no. Where they said no, he would drive to a secluded spot nearby, around dusk and sneak in with his paper and crayons to rub some graves.

Seemed unusual at the time. Still does.
When I was in junior school (many, many years ago) we were taken, as a school outing, to Childwall Parish Church to do this. Some of the gravestones are in the church itself.

Busses.
Always wanted to build a replica of the old Pier Head station.
Luckily we have s transport museum near aberdeen which puts an old bus display day on.
Tried collecting the corgi ones...but havent got room .
id rather use the room for my record collection ,which i also dont have room.

On a par with a Pergrine when it goes into a stoop.

The problem with Hobby`s, is that they`re that small and travel that fast, it`s so easy to miss them, especially when they`re hugging the ground in full flight.

The only time I saw one, was on moorland and it was coming full pelt towards me, as it chased down a Swallow, so I couldn`t miss it.
Also a rich man’s hobby… It isn’t cheap to house one of those.
Like rich knobs who build an owlery at their cabins, to house owls as pets. 🙄

Or like my uncle who once had a rich mate who collected 19th century scrimshaw.
This is the best video I could find to describe it, if you don’t know what it is:

19th century whaling tales edged onto whale bones… A proper rich knobhead hobby, FFS!

Been a couple of times with mates and I really enjoyed it, which came as a bit of surprise tbh.

It`s the cost that puts me off doing it properly, as it`s quite an expensive hobby and you have to jump through a lot of hoops in the UK to own a shotgun.
This place rents guns and sells ammo, so you don't need to own a shotgun. (though I do, since it is ultimately cheaper if you go a lot). It is a lot of fun...I could never hunt, but I always liked marksmanship. And yeah, the first time I went I was quite nervous, given the noise, recoil, etc., but I have good eye/ear protection and it's easy to get used to (always keeping an eye on safety).

Where you ever big into paintball, mate? Sounds like that might be up your alley… 🤔
