Unusual hobbies

A teacher of mine at high school once gave an entire lesson explaining how he spent his weekends doing grave rubbings.

Most times it seemed the cemetery were fine with it, but some would say no. Where they said no, he would drive to a secluded spot nearby, around dusk and sneak in with his paper and crayons to rub some graves.

Seemed unusual at the time. Still does.
Are you sure he said rubbings and not robbings? Would explain why some Cemeteries would be unhappy and him slipping over the fence at dusk?
Mmm?

One of my old bosses was part a group, that researched and found World War 2 aircraft, that had been shot down / crashed in battle abroad and their crews had never been found or recovered.

He used all of his holidays and even took unpaid time off, if the group thought they were close to finding an aircraft and needed a full compliment.

Prior to me leaving, they`d found and excavated two allied aircraft in Belgium ( I think ) and with the authorities, their crews had been recovered and repatriated.

He used to take a lot of stick about being an anorak from the lads, but looking back now it`s a pretty cool thing to do and I`m sure the families of the airmen were eternally grateful for them finding and help give them a proper burial after all that time.

Sporting clays is a newish one for me. I started about a year ago.

Been a couple of times with mates and I really enjoyed it, which came as a bit of surprise tbh.

It`s the cost that puts me off doing it properly, as it`s quite an expensive hobby and you have to jump through a lot of hoops in the UK to own a shotgun.

Unfortunately not. :(

On a par with a Pergrine when it goes into a stoop.

The problem with Hobby`s, is that they`re that small and travel that fast, it`s so easy to miss them, especially when they`re hugging the ground in full flight.

The only time I saw one, was on moorland and it was coming full pelt towards me, as it chased down a Swallow, so I couldn`t miss it.

Same here.. Did it on a stag do and it was a lot of fun, done it a couple of times since.

I'm a terrible shot though, so it's mostly an achievement if I hit anything.

If you were a farmer it seems like a great money making scheme. Few shotguns, a big field and some clays. Sorted.
