I think most people are aware of Ukraine as a country. It's pretty big to be honest, Kev.

It's more that most people in this country take a dim view on bully tactics by a large nation who use military force to invade a smaller neighbour.

I met a lot of Ukrainians in Lyon at Euro 2016, and they were great people, even after they lost.
where was the knowledge for the last 8 years of what was an ongoing conflict within its borders?

Ok so yeah, you could probably pick it out on a map.

I'm not going to claim I'm an expert, because I'm definitely not. But I wasn't completely oblivious to it all either, and was fully aware of the annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Things escalated last week and people's opinions changed because that's natural. I don't want to see a european country getting invaded because their neighbour doesn't like their democratic government.

Scholz has come out of this well in my eyes:

Bins Nord Stream 2 instantly.

Allocates an extra €100bn for the army.

Agrees to pay at least 2% GDP on defence.

Gets on board with banning them from the swift system despite an impact at home.
Can only imagine what the Germany’s reaction would have been with Merkel still in charge ?!

But without the knowledge of the detail of the last 8 years, you risk missing what has actually led us up to this point.

And it is not just because 'the Russians dont like democracy' which is what you are implying.

They may have some legitimate concerns (not getting into all that), but their response last week was completely disproporationate, unjustified, and lacking in humanity, in my opinion.

an 8 year war.

I'll leave it at that Tim.

There is no justification for what they have done. And no justification for causing innocent civilians to have to flee or stay overnight in underground stations.

Even take a step back and think of the simple day to day things that cannot happen now. Kids can't go to school, the elderly can't get the care they need. It's extremely sad and cannot be justified.

Kev what are you on about. Cant imagine anyone here wants to be in the position Ukraine are in. I dont think i'd be as brave as those people staying but I suppose nobody knows what they would do in that situation.

Its obviously terrifying for people as if he takes Ukraine I personally dont think he would stop there so we would get involved eventually. There is no win here

Yeah appeasement doesn't work

Ukraine is just the beginning for Putin

The bravery not just of Ukrainians fighting back but of the people in Russia who have actually protested the war when they know the consequences is awe inspiring

I wouldn't have the minerals to do it myself in the same situation I think
