Just been watching Kier Starmer on TV and as a life long Labour voter his lack of personality is a real concern.
He really has had a charisma by pass.
This shouldn't matter as it what you say that is important but in reality it does.
I definitely think that he is Labours achilles heal.

I'm definitely not making a comparison here, but Clement Atlee was probably the least charismatic man who's ever been PM, and he's reckoned by most historians to have been one of the best Prime Ministers of the twentieth century.

Yes, but Atlee had policies to transform the country - Starmer has plans to carry on austerity.

Starmer is Labours greatest strength and greatest weakness .

Without his vision and forensic approach to detail the Labour party would not have made the changes necessary to become electable.

However his lack of personality is undeniable and sadly nowadays the GE has become a popularity contest to many voters who can't or can't be bothered to understand policy.

On the policy point Starmer is going to have to get his finger out because as it stands ( and as a lifetime Labour voter) I genuinely don't know what Starmer stands for , other than he's not a Tory.

It's a problem. The good news for Labour is that it's a low single-digits problem. No matter how good/bad a leader is at public-facing stuff, they only have so much influence on underlying trends.

Bill Clinton can win two close elections, but first they have to be close. This one is not, so Starmer can only weigh like an anchor so hard. He'll cost Labour seats, but never the election.

When you have a buffoon like Johnson getting voted in because some people think he is funny you have to despair at the voters in this country.
As for Atlee would he even got voted in in these days of social media?

After the Brexit vote I'm wary about any election now.

People will believe lies and fear rather than common sense at the end of the day.

That's why I think this election will be closer than people expect.

Lazy glib insults that stick pick up a few percentage points. They also don't stem the sort of tide that washed Churchill out of office in '45.

The impact of Attlee's policies is more or less immaterial to a discussion of his effectiveness as a campaigner.
