UEFA Looking To Potentially Extend the Champions League

Well at the end of the day it makes more sense than this Europa league nonsense at it's current form, so might not be as a bad idea as some suggest.

Keep the Champions League as it is, its working,

turn the Europa league back into a cup (2 legs) competition with the winners getting a place in the Champions League.

This makes the most sense to me. Right now it's backwards and a little ****ed how the 3rd place team from the CL group stages drops down into the same position other teams have had to earn through qualifying and the Europa group stage. All that travel, all that prep, all that racial abuse from Eastern Europe clubs all for nothing if you get stuck with a CL team that got unlucky in their group. Or maybe that's the beauty of it.

If they take it so seriously then why does your very own point number 1 exist? They don't take it seriously enough to watch it in numbers large enough that TV companies pay huge money for the competition so there is huge money in the pot. So they don't really take it seriously. They are likely a lot like message board football fans -- they like the idea of it in principle and defend it out loud and then when they are home late at night they just watch the Champions League like everyone else in the world.

Remember how the schedule is formatted for the CL and EL. Perhaps the TV interest drops because CL games are played on Tuesday and Wednesday nights and then all the EL games are played on Thursday, and by that time, who will want to watch more football with a lower quality (unless you are jonesing to see that Dukla Prague away kit)? To me, although I'm not a TV exec, this isn't good for the EL and it would make sense to have it the other way around if parity is the goal.

clubs are probably most to blame for the non-entities that CL/europa have become. one off 2 legged ties are worth watching but this league rubbish they dreamed up to get more telly games to rake in the dough has killed it. anyone noticed the strange coincidence that as soon as LFC stopped being a top team the qualification dropped down place after place. ffs cant wait til the CL qualifiers are Div 2 play-off runners up

Make the champions league just for the champions of each league, it could be called the European Cup, then reduce the size of the Europa League and call it the UEFA Cup, and then have a seperate competition for teams that win their national cup competitions, this could be called the Cup Winner Cup, spread the money evenly across all three competitions. I'm surprised nobody has thought of this before.

The Europa League always seemed like a consolation prize to me. Absorbing it into Champions League has merit, I guess. I like what some guys are saying here about renaming the CL and actually HAVING a tournament of champions or something. Just my 2 cents.

Think they should have the champions league for each champion of a european league in a knockout set up then scrap europe and have 2nd 3rd 4th and5th of each league in europe to play a european cup as a knockout setup with each league position having an extra match to get to the main knockout stage

The more i think about this idea the more i think it's to protect the big teams should they have an off year. Nothing more/nothing less.

Ffs, the ffp rules have a clause essentially stating that in the cases of teams that are attractive to tv they can slide.

is right bud. LFC are one of the G14 and as they have slipped down the pecking order, the qualifying places have moved down too.
