I think buying him is better than not buying him, as I don't think prospective players are queuing up to join us. But set a good foundation, have a wonderful new stadium, get a big name in like Grealish, show we can give players an opportunity to progress their talent, and we will change that. I think we have a solid season, we will spend big next summer, and players will want to come seeing what we've started.I agree, I’m just not convinced spending £40m on a sub / bench warmer is going to get us there soon.
Maybe there’s a bucket load more transfer money available over the next window, in which case his purchase won’t look so out of place to me- if we can by then sign players who will improve us immediately.
Not sure what your point is?He started 20 matches last season in the Prem (got subbed a lot mind), and made a further 13 as a sub. All playing under the pressure of a relegation threatened team.
This league isn’t new to him.
It’s a fine line isn’t it. We aren’t able to buy the top quality so you take chance on ‘punts’ to ann extent on younger talent in Dibling and Barry in the hope that they progress here. And I know they aren’t cheap punts but that’s the going rate. I’d rather we take some chances in the market than get your Callum Wilson types in etcI agree, I’m just not convinced spending £40m on a sub / bench warmer is going to get us there soon.

He hardly got a decent ball. O'Brien just can’t find a pass. There’s a good player in Dibling but needs a better right back behind him and midfielders who play the ball to him early. Far too much conservative slow passing in the first half with midfielders hesitating and playing balls to fullbacks rather than trying to pick out the wingers first time.

I think they did ok to an extent in that they also got KDH and Grealish for the here and now. I think Barry in particular been exposed to more mins as Beto been awful.
My main worry on Dibling in particular is that I think there could be a case that we could have spent his money on two full backs that might have improved us a lot...but I guess that’s what Moyes and his committee decided on.
On Dibling - only seen him in his very brief appearances for us and u21’s. I don’t think he is physically ready tbh, looks like he definitely lacks pace and a bit of physicality. Technically you can see there’s something there but it’ll take time and patience.
Or neither start and Alcaraz starts.….slightly being devils advocate but it’s hard to see McNeil being any less effective than Dibling yesterday
McNeil has become the forgotten man but might be the better option against City.
To be fair to the midfield, Grealish, Ndiaye and Dibling were incredibly static in the first half. As slow as our midfield can be to make the pass, the movement was non existant. He hardly got a decent ball. O'Brien just can’t find a pass. I do agree, but that is what will happen. Moyes has played Alcaraz on the right or left multiple times and I think it’s hard to drop him after his display yesterday. But KDH will be straight back in as well.….i think Alcaraz has to play no10 or not at all, just as Ndiaye is better out wide. I don’t think I’d be replacing Grealish with Alcaraz. Square pegs in square holes.

Maybe there will be an easier decision if Keane isn’t fit for it and garner has to go RB so KDH goes into CM.
Agreed, Garner to RB and then once JB back (apparently imminently), the manager has 4 CB’s to select from. And within that, IMO both Keane and JOB have jumped ahead of Tarkowski in the pecking order and where he appears to be in decline.I hate to say it but Garner probably our best bet for right back at the moment.
With him and Alcaraz in the team we would play faster and look to the right wing much more.
Without a RB nor a real 10 in tje 1st half and slow ponderous cowardly play...
...we'd have needed Kanchelskis to have had any threat.
