2025/26 Tyler Dibling

….i really don’t get this point, he’s been substituted twice at half-time in games he’s started. He’s costing lots of money, he’s expected to have made a contribution, the fact he hasn’t indicates he’s been disappointing.
Sadly true. I have only seen him once (the Brentford game) and I thought he seemed really isolated whenever he got the ball. No full back offering support, no-one ahead of him in the box for a cross. I wonder whether his disappointing impact and apparent habit of slowing things down are due to a lack of confidence in his team mates as much as himself?

Grealish is idolised by some for slowing the play down on the left because "it's not his fault we dont have an attacking left back"...

...missing the point that without one, that tactic is ineffective.

Same for Dibling on the right, as you said no support and isolated.

Difference being KDH runs to support Grealish, thats about it.

Looks like managerial instructione with both doing similar. Dibling and the team look better when playing front foot at pace

Sold back to Southampton for £14m written all over this the way it is panning out.

I'm hoping it's as simple as the lad just hasn't settled yet. Went to uni with quite a few from Exeter and the surrounding areas and they were really freaked by 'big town', but had chilled by year 3.

Might sound odd, but the jump from the south/southwest to a proper big, busy, crowded city and the heavily urbanised North West might not be easy for him. Maybe he craves environs where everybody sleeps with their sister knows each other and a slower pace of life?

It’s hard not to compare him with the likes of Dowman at Arsenal or Liverpool’s young winger. They get the ball and want to run at players and drive forwards. For some reason Dibling receives the ball and seems to slow things down. I find it odd
Watch him last season - that's exactly what he did. Whether it's confidence or coaching, that's something that's changed this year.

He was our 4th or 5th choice winger by all accounts. I just find it a bit baffling he was on the list at all considering he’s not really a winger.

Compare his play style to those higher on the list like Fatawu & Fofana and it’s the complete polar opposite.

He's the least looking winger i think I've seen. Grealish isnt a natural winger but is comfortable having 2-3 players around him due to his upper body strength. He likes to draw players in.

Dibling, as soon as he's doubled up on plays the ball backwards and from a running position doesn't seem to have a cross on him unless he cuts back onto his left.

I'm not sure he's cute enough to find the pockets of space a 10 does, but that's the only place I can see him doing damage.

I thought it was a poor signing when we got him and I've seen nothing from him to suggest it still doesn't look that way. If we get Europe, maybe some slower paced games we'll be able to experiment with him and his position, but i just don't see it happening with him tbh.

Totally agree. I just don't get the hype

So quick to write players off these days. When I saw him play for Southampton he played with confidence, driving at defenders and great strength at riding challenges and finding a pass.

Think that confidence is lacking and getting used to being at a bigger club with higher expectations.

Lets hope that's exactly what it is (a confidence thing) because the more options we have where players can come off the bench and change a game the better.

Still 7 games to go, he might get a 5-10 minute run out in one of them when he could be a match winner

There's no harm in a loan next season to a side in The Championship or in Europe if his game time isn't going to improve. That's not a negative, that should be a consideration as part of his development at such a young age.

Looking at Fellows last night he would get a game there.

He’s a five a side player. Has great touch, good close control in tight areas, but just lacks the qualities needed on the wing in the Prem.
