Transfer Rumour Tyler Dibling

I mean obviously we need end product to some extent, everybody does at the end of the day. I don't really agree with the 'we need somebody who's going to produce right now' shouts though. We're obviously not going to immediately gatecrash the top 4, and as long as we add a a few more decent players to beef the squad up you'd hope we'd have enough about us not to go down. So why do we need people who are going to produce great numbers immediately? Surely it's better to bring players in who give us a chance of building a genuinely good side over the next couple of years rather than spending a load of money bringing someone like Grealish in for one year to help us finish 9th instead of 11th.

But not at £40+mill. We're not Chelsea or Spurs who can afford to spend that type money on 19 year olds who'll hopefully develop. The reason they do is because they have adequate cover in areas.

We on the other hand have a very poor to average attack and have done for years. We currently have Ndiaye, Beto, and McNeil in an attack that can deliver to an extent in the prem. Followed by Barry and Chermitti who are "developing". Its pretty thin. You can throw Alcaraz in their too but hes nowhere near the cost.

We then go an blow £40mill on Dibbling to add to that...it doesn't really improve it. It improves longevity in the hopes he'll develop. Say we did buy him...id still expect another more experienced attacking player.

And finishing 9th is more attractive than 11th when it comes to recruitment to improve.

35 million not 40

Players who are already top quality won't come here, players who are just bog standard 'PL proven' don't move the dial forward, if we want to actually get better over the long run then this is the type of deal we have to do. It's a risk of course, but who wouldn't be? Having a clear vision and being seen as a place where players can develop and play good football is going to be much more attractive to players than finishing 9th in the league with a load of ageing plodders playing safety first football, that's very obvious just looking at what clubs like Brighton, Bournemouth etc are doing.

My mate (who is a blue) now lives and works in Southampton. He's seen him quite a few times and thinks he's a star in the making. All his mates down there , apparently think the same of this lad.
That said my mate's judgement of young players can be suspect (as can mine). We both thought that Moise Kean was going to be a great buy.
