what's mind boggling is that both Kubo and Fofana have achieved and shown more. Kubo has played in champions league too

Sure there are. They're just not mainstream yet for whatever reason. Next year there will be 5 more that will be at the forefront that no one is talking about today and their prices will have gone up from 5 mil to 30 mil.

Yes, but you're buying potential. Newcastle spent practically the same on Anthony Gordon 3 years ago and all he had done was shown himself to be fast and scored about 4 goals, most of which were horribly deflected.

To be fair, Gordon has had 1 season with double figure goals and double figure assists.

I could flip that and say right players to spend it on - dreadful amount to spend. If we'd got Gylfi for £20-25m that would have been ok for example.

You’re comparing those World Cup and multiple Champions League winners to some guy from the German league.

Given we don't seem able to attract players this signing makes sense. I think we're overpaying but there's a world in which he develops. If he goes up a level the fee will be about right.

If I was the lad's agent I'm not sure I'd be telling him to join though, he'd be better off at a club with a bigger and better squad so he can develop without the pressure on him. That said I don't know his personality, he might thrive. Lots of unknowns with this one.
