TV Series

Anyone else tried Sky Atlantic's new show, Britannia? Half a dozen episodes in and I'm on the verge of binning it off, but I'd be interested to hear what others have made of it.
I thought it was shocking mate, had to give it up after a few episodes. It simply isn't able to decide what type of show it wants to be. Does it want to be a historical drama? Well the it fails on every level when they have charecters calling their parents "mum and dad", the completely lack of historical research is appalling. The show lack both the intensity even moderate accuracy of say Vikings.

Does it want to be the new Game of Thrones? Then it fails miserably. They don't have the charecters to sustain interest that much with some of the acting so wooden you'd of thought half of the cast had just left drama school. Others are so over the top they are almost cartoon like. Is the plot interesting enough? Not really, it had potential but they squandered it and we are left with this mess of a show.

Does it even want to be a historical comedy? I'd of thought not and yet they tried some extremely poorly judged and badly timed "funny moments" that were horrible to watch.

And the gore and the violence was poorly judged. Shows like GOT and Vikings use it at the right times mostly (both of them have misjudged on occasion) but this was just violence and gore for its own sake with the show runners simply saying "look at how violent and edgy our show Is!".

I'd tell people to avoid this mess of a show and find somthing else. I normally try and persevere with tv shows that I should like such as this but it's so bad that I can't.

Very much agree with @Gwladysstreetlad .

I cannot think of a more ill-fitting title sequence/credits intro for a show. It just bemuses me every time.

It isn't close to historically accurate. The mysticism aspect of the druids they went for comes off as camp and over the top. Morrison's Roman General is an utter bore and so are the rest of the characters.

This show and Knightfall show how easy it is to cock up History shows.

Started Altered Carbon on Netflx last night (two episodes) and it's got off to a very promising start.
I thought it was crap.

A bigger waste of money than The Get Down or Sense 8 which also cost a bomb and show that money doesn't guarantee a good show.

I can't understand the decision behind making Altered Carbon. Spend millions upon millions creating this new sci-fi world to support a slowly paced noir murder mystery story.

I just wasn't arsed about anything that was going on. I found the AI hotel amusing but the rest of it was nothing special or even remotely interesting to me or the missus. This is going to go down as a flop.

Binned it after the first episode. The Roman invasion of Britain is a good enough story in it's own right without the need to make it look like a Marvel movie with ott cartoon villains.
Very disappointed in it tbh, because I like David Morrissey and have done since One Summer. What a show that was.
If you haven't seen Rome, a collaboration between HBO and the BBC, give that a go instead. It's absolutely epic, with almost GOT production levels. In fact they only binned it when they secured the rights to GOT and wanted to film that instead.
