TV Series

The interviews with Dahmer drop on Netflix next week. That will eradicate any sense of sympathy some weirdos have had with him after this current series.

I didn’t think the series was sympathetic to him at all really, so wasn’t sure where that criticism of the series came from.

As it showed, there was people writing him fan letters in prison, so any sympathy towards him is just from weirdos, and I think probably doesn’t reflect on the portrayal in the series.

Oh I didn't agree either, I've just read a few bits online since it dropped about it.

Yeah, when I googled it after watching, I saw a fair few articles about him being too humanised, and it being disrespectful to his victims etc, but I didn’t buy that at all. He came across as an absolute monster, and I thought the victims, especially in the episode around the deaf guy (Tony Hughes?), were represented very compassionately.

The Dahmer series on Netflix.

Well made, with some fantastic performances. Like many Netflix series, it was stretched out to more episodes than it needed to be, so lost its momentum as it went on, and last couple of episodes I started losing interest.

The episode centred around the deaf victim was the high point for me.

An absolute stand alone episode and worthy of awards.

It really rammed home, what a monster Dahmer was and I also thought, it was real tribute to the lad and his family too, as they were just such decent and lovely people.

That episode out of all of them really stayed with me.

Ive never read the books, no actually I read the Hobbit in high school, so I know very little of the backstory. I love Galadriel she’s a badass. And the dwarf son, its a fine performance. I think I just like the scope of it, the detail in the design, and the story is what I would expect from Middle Earth. Im not getting where Sauron is from though, is he one of the first beings on the planet or what? Are the Wizards the same species as Sauron? And finally are the orcs Sauruman digs up in Two Towers end up buried alive in the tunnels theyre building now?
I quite like the Dwarfs too but I'm not crazy about the depiction of Galadrial or any of the Elves tbh. They just don't feel magical to me at all. I don't dislike them its just that they aren't what I expect from a show focused around Tolkien's work. I honestly couldn't tell you where they're going with Sauron or the Wizards or the Orcs though because its nothing like the source material which is both a good thing and a bad. Its bad in the sense that anything new will never be as good as what Tolkien originally wrote but its good in that I'm sincerely interested in seeing what's going to happen next so I suppose the show has done its job.

I did enjoy the latest ROP episode today. Its interesting I'll give them that and its a visual feast. Plus the fact that we weren't subjected to more of the stupid Harefoots this week was a welcome bonus.
it was very good
but you’d think they’d have checked the package for the key thing to see what it was. Made no sense and ruined the ending for me.

The Into the deep documentary on Netflix about Kim Wall was outstanding. I thought it was going to be a lazy remake of the HBO one from a couple years ago but this one is much better due to the fact its made by people who were originally filming Madsen and his submarine team for something else altogether, it follows their reactions in real-time as events unfold. A lot of the footage in the documentary was used to help convict him.
