Could very well be lads - just I had £55,000 a week in my head for some reason. Probably from Football Bloody Manager

Why would they if they know they can get twice that amount from other clubs?

Depends if other clubs bid though doesn't it? (y)

It was only two years ago they got him on a free transfer - no other clubs came in then...

As I said, if other clubs come in, odds are the price will go up. If not though, Boro wont be in a position to retain him.

Thats why he's saying if there was only one bid on the table. I seriously doubt we'd be drawn into any sort of bidding war for him. Villa fan arn't you? How high would you like to see your lot go for him?

Think it's safe to say 20 top clubs in Europe would like him. Even Benitez is linked with a swoop. Can't see them being worried about not getting bids in.

Depends on what our other targets are and how much we have to secure them. Hope the Defour rumour turns out to be true. Would love to get him and prefer him over Tuncay. Both of them would be superb though.

I'd love to sign him. Whether it ends up at £ 6-8-10 Mill.. well I really couldn't care less. It's not my money, so as long as MON gets who he wants I'm happy.
Ideally I wouldn't want it to pass £ 8 Mill though.

The papers also had Lescott tripling his wages to 120k a week. I'd imagine he is one of our top earners. Happy to be proved wrong but I thought 40k was our limit. (Moyes being the exception and rightly so.)

I don't think Lescott was one of the very top earners - when Moyes signed his contract, figures of £50k were mentioned for Yakubu, Cahill and Arteta.

On Tuncay, his price may be £4m because of his wages - i.e. teams aren't willing to pay £8m for a player on £3m+ per year in wages. If he was on £40k then teams might be willing to pay more for him. It would certainly be a bad move for Everton to break their wage structure for Tuncay - Yakubu, Cahill, Arteta, Lescott and Jagielka could all justifiably demand parity, which we just can't afford.

I imagine he could only negotiate that sort of a wage because of being on a free (thanks whoever mentioned that). In his current situation he might accept even 40-50k. Still crossing everything for legs in the Defour rumour now Brugge got us all hopeful.

doffs cap*

boro got him on a free, so if we pay 4 million for him that is pretty much what they paid for his wages.

pretty decent signing for them at the end of the day.
I think Boro would like to get rid of him due to his wages, so an offer of £4-6M might be enough to let us talk to him.
