Shushi is only 10km from Stepanakert which is the Armenian name for Xankendi. No fighting though (for now) due to the declaration. Looks like Azerbaijan will keep Shusha and Stepanakert stays in Armenian hands. Although not sure how many will want to stay surrounded closely as they will be.

I fear for civilians for both sides but this was always going to happen. AZ is much stronger than AM if Russia is not there to assist them.

Now it looks like Xankendi will stay in the Armenians control, while Azerbaijan gains Shusha and Agdam. Huge protests in Yerevan as we speak..

A very good, neutral thread on the NK conflict

@The binman chronicles thoughts?

In the end it's good that the surrounding areas are given back. It would have been even better in 1988 had the Azeri's allowed NKR to become an independent nation and those lands would have never been taken in the first place. Also the Azeri's who lived in NKR would have stayed and the Armenians who lived in other regions of Azerbaijan wouldn't have been chased out either.

2 wars and 32 years and both sides are still not where they want to be. I was listening to an Azeri scholar the other day and he said basically they've liberated the region from Armenia just to give it to Russia.
