Travel thread 3.0

Off tomorrow on a tour of Albania. Looking forward to it as I do not know an awful lot about the place. Will be seeing a number of ancient sites as the country has been occupied by, amongst others, the Greeks, Romans & Ottomans. Having looked at a few restaurant menus online am expecting similarities with the Turkish food I enjoy each year. Hopefully the reports about independent breweries emerging is correct. :pint2:
On my list of places to see looks amazing I'm sure you will have a brilliant time

Just finishing 3 weeks away where I've visited:

Italy:

Milan - 1 cathedral, 1,000 pickpockets
Lake Como/Bellagio/Lugano - beautiful scenery if the weather holds
Pompeii/Naples - amazing history and the Maradona tributes are fantastic. Utterly chaotic - loved it

Romania:

Bucharest - a hidden gem. Beautiful with lots restaurants
Dracula's castle/Brasov - a long day trip that on balance probably wasn't worth it even though it had been on my list for a long time

Poland:

Krakow - without trying to sound controversial, and fully acknowledging the atrocities that took place, Auschwitz as a tour lacked the horrors of the killing fields in Cambodia. As a city it offers little unless you want to spend the day on the lash

Lithuania:

Kaunas/Vilnius - nice day trips but little to do. Kaunas has a cool university town vibe with some decent restaurants on the main strip

As always, I've enjoyed seeing new places.

Surprised at Krakow, there are quite a few museums, memorials, sbd historic sights. Admittedly they're not always in obvious places.

On Romania - Bran Castle is a bit of a running joke amongst the natives I know. Plus, it takes forever to get anywhere as it's quite a large country, the major cities are well spaced out, and transport links aren't great. I've not got as far south as Brasov so can't comment. Hilly apparently, but well loved by outdoors types for proximity the mountains.
