Transfer Window Assessment

Is the CL feasible?

*United could be in for a very rough season. If Van Persie continues to misfire where will the goals come from?
*City should be in the shake up but they look uncharacteristically weak at the back.
*Chelsea might have shot themselves in the foot by deciding that Mata is surplus to requirements.
*Arsenal only have one striker and still haven't addressed their defensive frailties.
*Spurs are reliant on Soldado to replace Bale's goals.
*What effect will Suarez's return have on Liverpool? They still look short of goals.

If Lukaku is the piece on the jigsaw that we've been missing I don't see why we can't mount a serious challenge.

Those teams are still a way ahead of us unfortunately. I can see the ****e collapsing again after their relatively good start though.

As for the window:

1) Fellaini - Didn't want him to leave but 27.5M ?? Can't turn that down in our situation. He'll be missed though.

2) Anichebe - Believe it or not I didn't want to lose him either as I thought he was a better option than Kone. That said, can't turn down 6M for him.

3) Lukaku - Mana from heaven that one !!! What a fantastic piece of business and I've got to tip my hat to the club for that one. There's the striker that everyone has been looking for.

4) McCarthy - Don't know much about him but my hope is that he does well for us and justifies the price tag. No pressure then.

5) Barry - Everyone has been saying that we needed to strengthen the middle of the park well there you go. Sure, we lose Fellaini in the process but Barry's a pro and I think that's a solid deal for us.

I give Everton an 8.5 out of 10 for this window.

Agreed; VERY important that we continue to invest in January.

Also, I initially thought that about Vic. However, what's the most he'll ever be worth do you think? I can't see him ever being more than a £5m player. We've done well there.

Yeah, I think £5-6m is good money, he isn't a goal-scorer and never will be in my opinion, but might do well for West Brom.

Good luck to the lad, he's one of us so I wish him all the best.

So we have a record TV deal and we still sell more than we bring in. Be honest: you are not expecting to see it in January are you?

Why do we let them get away with it?

It's frustrating, I'll give you that.

But playing devil's advocate here; maybe Martinez wanted more time to properly evaluate the squad instead of spunking the whole lot just because he's got it. We're not weaker for the departures; in fact, to the contrary. The players he's brought in are all pretty much low risk (except for McCarthy who he obviously knows very well). So why not wait until January then make more considered purchases?

27.5 mil for Felli is great no doubt.

Having 60mil Tv money and spending near 20mil while other teams around us spend flat out is a joke.

We could have done a lot more but again, we could have done a lot worse.

It's still early days with Martinez so I will not criticise.

COYB!!

Glad we got McCarthy and Lukaku especially.

I hope more people wake up now to the fact we have a gangster running this club given the massive negative net spend we just had. An absolute disgrace of a man who should be run out of town and beaten with sticks.

*solemnly nods in agreement*

Not sure I agree with people using their predictions for the January window to judge this current window. Everyone is guessing as to what happens next. All we know for sure is that we have signed some very good players, and ones that fill glaring holes in our squad, whilst receiving crazy money for a couple of outgoing players.

Also I feel that the complete transparency in the fees for all players involved kinda gives the board no choice. Nowhere to hide with the money for them now.

Obviously not. I'm not sure on the point you're trying to make though? We've still made money this window unless the loan fees came to £10m+ (I very much doubt that) and the wages will have now balanced in our favour following the departure of our highest earners.

It's quite annoying that you only picked up on that point from my post. i.e. the only point that could potentially be argued as a negative, rather than look at all the other positive points I made. Lighten up?

I can't even find your post amusing as it's so out of touch with reality. EVERYTHING with this window is NEGATIVE other than the fees brought in.

Roberto Martinez has bought;

Robles -- 1,5 mil for a reserve goalkeeper who wont get a game.
Alcaraz -- Who knows what his signing on fee and wages are but he's now our 6th centre back.
McCarthy -- 13mil The ONLY player who will get in the side in a year
Deulofeu -- No idea on his fee and wages for a season.
Barry -- 1mil fee and 100k odd a week (??)
Kone -- 6.5mil for an absolute donkey whose on his way downhill
Lukaku -- 3mil loan fee with big wages whose with us for a season due to our inept strikeforce

Theres 25mil down the toilet for ONE player who will be in our first 11 in a year. The rest are going to be reserves or single season players.

Count up all these salaries and do tell me how in the name of Zeus we will be saving money on wages ?!

Have a guess on the signing on fees for these players and let me know how we have cash left over....

It's not just you, theres about 50 people on here who think theres money left over when there blatently isn't.....just count the figures and work out the numbers in terms of salary over a season.

In a years time we will be in massive problems.

We still lack a real world class footballer which all those teams have at least one of. (Exception being Spurs but I still think their squad is a lot stronger than ours).

They're nearly all reliant on just one man though.

*If Van Persie gets injured or just stops scoring will Rooney give his all?
*Can City keep the opposition out without Kompany?
*Who is the main man at Chelsea? Will Eto'o perform? Will Hazard be expected to step in to Mata's shoes?
*Can Arsenal stop giving away silly goals? What about their injury jinx? What if Giroud has problems?
*Can Tottenham gel? Where will the creative spark come from without Bale?
*Will Liverpool be able to accommodate Sturridge, Suarez, Coutinho and Gerrard?

Probably at least half of those clubs could internally combust, especially as they're under a lot more pressure than us.

Pretty good not happy with fellaini money not being spent though

I think we all feel the same about that but if its give Bobby time to assess where else we need to strengthen and then identify some targets for Jan then that's fine with me. If however, we suddenly spout some garbage about it being swallowed up and don't spent a penny in Jan then this is not acceptable!!!

I love posters like you that really don't have a grasp on the economic realities of the transfer market where EVERTON are concerned.

How long you been following the club mate because it's been like this since I've been supporting the Blues. What I mean by "like this" is that we do what we can to field a competitive team within the CONSTRAINTS of our budget. That means we do loan deals where we can and permanent ones when we can if it makes sense.

I've got no problem with bringing players like Deulofeu, Lukaku, & Barry in on loan to our club.

We could do a whole lot worse.

Well over 30 years -- yourself ?

As for the economic constraints of the club, 7 players have been brought in for ridiculous money of which only one will be in the first team in a season so the economic reality is that 32.5mil (a huge amount for Everton) has been squandered in entirety (that's right there wont be anything left over).

Kone 6.5mil but behind Jelavic and now certainly Lukaku
Barry 100k a week
Alcaraz a 6th centre back

Total waste of money on 3/7 players there which doesn't make any economic sense. In fact if YOU go over the numbers for everyone you can clearly see the cash has been frittered away.

McCarthy I pray comes good as he's currently the only one adding to the first eleven over more than this season.
