I think people are going way over the top just because we have got Lukaku on loan. We still sold Fellaini and failed to invest more than half of the funds, and we went and bought yet another Wigan player who is far from proven. I'm happy because I thought things would be far worse than this, but I think it was far from being a fantastic transfer window.
Loans are the way the league is going. Do you think Liverpool fans are arsed that Victor Moses is only on loan? Man Utd have just got a left back on loan from Real Madrid. Even if you sign a player permanently on a 3 year deal, if he has a worldbeating first season, he could go. There's very little loyalty. I really wouldn't worry about loans. Lukaku is a great signing.
We failed to invest more than half the funds because the Fernando deal fell through. There wasn't the time to invest. And yeah, many people will say we'll never see the money again. That's a valid comment. But the Ofoe/Leroy Fer money was eventually spent on Kone. Lets see what happens to the left over £10m we now have in January.
McCarthy has potential and great resale value if he develops. We spent £15m on an unproven 20 year old from Standard Liege 5 years ago. I think people are just annoyed because he's from Wigan. People need to stop focusing on where he came from and wait and see if he's any good for us.
Barry the exception at age 32, but we've swapped 25 year old Fellaini and 25 year old Anichebe for 22 year old McCarthy and 20 year old Lukaku. Lowered the age range of the team which needed doing.
