Tottenham Hotspur

They haven't given De Zerbi a relegation release clause, so they must be paying him one massive signing on fee and staying up bonus or he will have to walk away with no further payment if they drop down..

What he said about Greenwood was insane and insulting, I’m glad their supporters group have said something.

Football can be a funny game though, if he wins a few games, suddenly this becomes old news and the fans just focus on their team.

It’s mad that for what seems like 10 years the Spurs fans were calling for Levy to go, but look at the mess they have now, I don’t know who is making decisions there now, but they haven’t got much right so far.

31 is not the same as it used to be. When everyone behaved like Grealish, 31 was over the hill. Players lost their pace and their bodies broke down.

Today, with the level of sports science and the personal professionalism, many players are peaking 30-35. I don't think it's as clean cut as you make out here

Depends a bit on Watkins' approach and whether he is keeping himself fit as to whether it's a good investment or not

The £30mil would be dead money in your example, whether he continues to 33-35 at a high level or not.

What we don't want is to sign players for fees and then let them go for frees. Thats what destroyed out FFP level for years.

Mykolenko for example should be extended and Beto + McNeil sold because otherwise we'll not have value from the overall deals.

Can't go around throwing £30mil at players to let them go for free. Also cant be dropping that level of wonga on players likely to drop their current level of performance - which isnt top notch this season.

If the player is a decided upgrade on what we have, then yes. But you are always preoccupied with a player's age.

Can you provide examples where a 30+ year old was signed for £30mil to great success?
