"Top 6"

Arsenal have upwards of 200m kicking around in the bank. That's impressive considering they bought a new stadium. Proves also what qualifying for the champions league season after season can really do. They are a sleeping monster...... But choose not to be awake.

A new manager could spend on a real Madrid type splurge but can't see that under kroenke and that board. I think they're happy were they are. It wouldn't surprise me if they went for an eddie howe type appointment

Either way thier fans are demanding a bigger push for titles & if we are fair about it, we won't be in the position they are in now for a good few years let alone after the Wenger era. If we are taking a similar path to Spurs ( which it seems) then we are several years behind them too. The spade is very much in the ground & they are performing well. Man Utd are way way way out of reach on all levels except on the pitch. They strive for titles every season. We strive for 7th currently. Same for City to an extent in that only the best is good enough as with Chelsea too. Liverpool are the weak. I say weak in comparison to the others mind. 7th might get quite familiar for a couple of seasons.

If Wenger does go at the end of the season then the next guy will demand transfer funds & Arsenal are still a big enough fish to attract the big name players. For some reason Wenger chooses not too.

Total myth, since 2013/14, Arsenal have a 216m net spend, and 264m total spend.

Their net spend is significantly higher than Chelsea during that period and only surpassed by City and United.

They've just by and large bought a lot of similar players and have a lot of dross in that squad as unlike Chelsea etc they hardly sell players anymore.

They will also struggle to get an absolute top class manager in this summer, for one kroenke isn't the type to shell out huge compensation, and also smart managers will realise following on from Wenger as the first new manager is gonna be a poison chalice - much like Ferguson's successor faced.

Wenger choosing bit to go for the best out there is a nice smokescreen btw for the owners to sit behind, they will never ever fund a spending spree like other teams, the owner is about the profit margin not about the trophy haul.

Don't think it will be the same tbh. Ferguson achieved much more, and went out on top. No-one was calling for his head. Arsenal have underachieved for ages, with only their two FA Cups to show for the last ten years. Plenty of people calling for Wengers head. I think managers will see it as a great opportunity to come into a great set up and immediately jump straight into title contention.

who cares about wenger or Untd. or the rs, they're there to be caught, so why not go out and catch them.
*goes out on limb - We have The Europa, That's not going to change, so no need to play it careful, go for the win, take it to EVERBODY, get in their faces, I don't see WBA getting 2 Pts to our one - in every game.

I'd be more convinced of arsenal dropping away if they keep wenger. They're best players will leave and offering fannies like ozil 250k a week means less money for them to spend on actual proper players who will win leagues.

agreed on both. The fact of the matter is, they still have a lot of top quality players and can still attract them. The RS haven't bought anyone of note for years, regardless of if they've been in the champs league or not. Arsenal will be a force when wenger goes imo, but maybe a year or two of transitioning, but certain players could do better and leave.

Dunno about that mate, when your having fights amongst the fans at the match cos one set pulls out a Wenger out banner, then I'd say that's going to be a mess for any manager to come after, last few years have clouded just what a transformation arsenal made to that club from top to bottom and he gavevtgem there greatest ever team.

Not quite the same, but look at kendalls successor - and he was a bloke already a legend at the club.

Arsenal have an entire squad to suit the managers style of play and they either go for similar - like a Howe type, who will tweak what's there no more, or go for a total change, who will have to absolutely gut that squad in a manner like koeman is having too here, only with massively bigger names, egos and wages to have to clear.

Won't be forever, but they will have a good 3-4 year spell like United where 4th would represent a huge success.

They get the first two appointments as wrong as united did though and they won't be able to spend endkesskey to correct it and could be left looking back with regret about being so eager to get Wenger out, not one footy man at that club in authority which would scare me on their ability to get this done smoothly

Koscheilny is 32 soon, Cech looks finished as a top keeper, bellerin has made noises about leaving in the future, Sanchez is almost certain to go, ozil likely to follow suit as well.

Without those at there peak or at all mate, then they have a very average collection of players.

Welbeck, Walcott, Chamberlain, Gabriel, Monreal, ospina, Gibbs, uwobe Ramsey, etc are either crocks or not good enough for any title contending team.

jesus christ, i thought koscielny was about 26 ha

Yip.

For years the target for EFC was to break into the "top four".

Purely because that was were a team needed to be to make the CL.

Suddenly the glass ceiling has got lower and making the "top six" has become the holy grail.

And this is purely because Manchester United are having difficulty making the top four.

Can't agree.

The top 4 became the top 6 when Spurs and City joined them. Everton have not really been constant enough to be classed as one of the top 6.

There was no top 8 last year when UTD and Chelsea were crap

Ithas been the top 6 for a few years now too.

The run in for us and the teams above us (assuming Chelsea are beyond reach)

We finished 6th, 5th, 5th in Moyes' time and it always remained the 'Top 4'.

Man Utd and Liverpool have fallen out of their favourite 'Top 4', so now it has become a Top 6.

For this season I think that the top six places have been decided for many weeks now.
We are too far behind all six and are likely to drop at least as many points as all of them between now and the end of the season.
Last Saturday certainly helped us close out the seventh spot...hopefully, but I think no more than that.

We talk about the top six, but really that fight is for the top four places and our hope is that next season is that if we can make it a top seven , then it means that we are fighting with the others for a top four finish.

Mate, there were many times during that spell that we would moan about them extending it to top 5/6 even show 7th when the big 4/5/6 were there. Yhere are basically 6 teams that consistently challenge for the top 4 and are known as the top 6. We are not seen as part of that elite YET as we are not nearly close to them over the last 10 years.

It has been top 6 for a long time though

Looking at that, Liverpool have a really favourable run in as do Spurs. Utd and Arsenal have tougher run ins, but do have the extra games. If we are to catch anyone it would be Arsenal if this pressure keeps building up on Wenger, giving the players an excuse to underperform, we've seen what that can do ourselves.
