I think , from reading your posts , I’d guess you’ve got a clue on this . Doesn’t a judge often with contempt issues in their own court swiftly ? As I understand it In this case SYL has been brought before him and pleaded guilty , I accept its swift but it’s not unheard of is it ?
Of course they can and as you rightly mention they often do if it's suitable to do so. Yet, it all depends on a number of different circumstances of the case itself.

There is the means and motive of the contempt, the potential severity (consequences to the case and others), previous convictions and any mitigating factors.

Knowing the severity of the case and the individual involved, you would suspect the judge may have remanded him, sought advice and set a trial date.

This is what I suspect the Judge has suggested, although I do also have an inkling that referring it to the AG may be a way of washing it away into the political.

Tommy never pleaded guilty.

The sentences obviously vary depending on the involvement in the offences , those are the core of it have been hammered with15-18 years and others who’d you’d imagine had significantly less involvement got less of a sentence . It’s the nature of the court system and the nature of reporting that the post trial reporting dealt with the more serious offenders and offending .

Those sentences are hardly a 'hammering'.

They raped, abused and tortured hundreds of little children. Anything less than life is a something of a touch for the rapists.

Tommy never pleaded guilty.

This is how it was reported :

Hull daily mail

He pleaded guilty to contempt of court and breach of a suspended sentence.

Matthew Harding, mitigating, said his client felt "deep regret" after realising the potential consequences of his actions

Guardian

Tommy Robinson, the founder of the far-right English Defence League, has been jailed for 13 months for contempt of court.

The 35-year-old’s sentence can be revealed after a judge lifted reporting restrictions on the case on Tuesday. The case had been widely discussed on social media, where rightwing activists claimed that the restrictions amounted to state censorship.

Robinson was arrested on Friday after broadcasting an hour-long video over Facebook from outside Leeds crown court. In the video he made comments that risked causing a trial to collapse.

Robinson pleaded guilty to contempt of court. He was arrested, charged and sentenced within five hours.

Former English Defence League (EDL) leader Tommy Robinson has been jailed for potentially prejudicing a court case, it can be reported.

Robinson, who appeared in the dock under real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was arrested in Leeds on Friday.

The 35-year-old was broadcasting on social media outside the city's crown court where a trial was ongoing.

A ban on reporting his 13-month sentence at the same court was lifted after being challenged by the media.

Robinson, from Bedfordshire, pleaded guilty to a charge of contempt of court.

So I presume rather than buying a house he’s using some of his legal funding to sue the above ? I can only go on the media reporting as I’m not a follower of the bloke in question .

I did just look at his mate Avi yemini on YouTube who said he didn’t have his own lawyer and was advised to plead guilty by a lawyer who wasn’t an expert in contempt and he’d be out straight away and he then said “that’s what I call judgment under duress “

Listen mate I’d gladly see them get lifed off , in reality the sentences within our current system are fairly severe . I’m not dismissing what the offenders did they’re scum , I’m merely saying across the board in 2018 sentences in some cases of a minimum of 18 or 15 years are fairly severe .

Tommy never pleaded guilty.

I notice on the basis of his appeal

The appeal judges also found he was sentenced as if he had pleaded guilty , despite it being unclear what he was admitting to , and there had been a “muddle” about the nature of the contempt he faced.

So there might be an argument about the nature of his intentions in relation to his plea but it certainly seems like he pleaded guilty .

All of that is wrong though. He didn't plead at all.

Be wary of what you read, it's not always correct.

Some got 6 years. About 5 times what tommy got for contempt.

Let that sink in.

It’s a legal system though isn’t it ? I’ve no idea of the details of each offender , i’d Imagine some were not as heavily involved therefore less of a sentence . If presume the judge has all the facts and in our legal system they do the sentencing , seems the fairest system .

I regularly see reports that sex offenders , burglars , violence offenders , fraudsters get sentences that I don’t agree with change the system I’m ok with that . Let’s be fair the last two of those your mate tommy has been convicted of , in terms of violence more than once . I’m not a wishy washy liberal , if the sentencing guidelines say they should get heavier sentences then give them longer or change the guidelines but I don’t get exercised about one particular offending group . I’ll think the offender is scum whether it’s a catholic priest , a footballer , a grooming gang or edl member .

So the court of appeal judgement was wrong ,The one that released him ? Fair enough . Can I ask
Mate where are you getting your info , Genuinely interested . I’m presuming it’s from Robinson himself or those linked because it doesn’t seem available on the mainstream media .

Yeah it was from him.

There were no reporters in court.

The courts are hardly going to admit they imprisoned him without due process. The court transcripts back up what tommy, sorry stephen, is claiming.

Why did nobody in the msm ask for them? Just stating as fact something they have no clue on.

I know tommy is the bad guy here but this sets a very dangerous precedent.

They weren't hammered is all I was saying tbh.

It was an odd choice of word, cant put my finger on why.

Maybe cos it implies you don't get the fuss when they've been hammered by the courts.

Some willl be out when their victims are still teenagers.

If you didn't agree with the sentences you wouldn't have described them as a hammering.

These child molesters have got off very very lightly.

To be honest I can’t talk about each of the individual cases to know enough about the sentencing if I agree with them or not , so I can’t pretend otherwise. I will say I’m a lot happier seeing offenders like that get 18 years than 5 or 6 and with the details I’ve seen reported I’d probably be happier with them all getting longer but I honestly don’t know enough about the specifics . I do think in 2018 that sentences of 18 years are fairly strong , if I’ve picked the wrong word then it wasn’t intentional . I suppose that I meant was a differential between those that got 5 and 18 , the 18 got hammered comparatively. Like I say if I selected the wrong word it genuinely wasn’t deliberately.

I’ve got a few issues with the legal system but I’m unconvinced in this country that we’re sentencing people and lying to the media about a guilty plea relying on every single person involved supporting that lie especially when the other choice is Robinson is lying .

Like I say I’ve got issues with the system , I’m far from a fan of the police and cps, although personally I’ve got a lot more confidence in the judiciary. I find it a lot more likely that a liar is lying rather than a judge and every other individual involved but that’s my opinion .
