Being a big fan of the book, I was dreading the film, as I thought they‘d “ Hollywood it “ and destroy the aching bleakness of the book.

However, apart from changing the ending, which I think would’ve gone over the heads of most mainstream cinema audiences, I was very pleasantly surprised.

Also, from memory, he had a really wimpy curry - Pasanda or something of the like - and that was probably the end of his chances with me.
