So simple.

Ref has a spot on view of the incident and should be able to see a clear shot go straight in the net with no other player from Newcastle inviolved. Simple decision. GOAL.

But what we get are officials with little or no appreciation of the game - only the rules and he bottled it by asking his assistant who saw what we all saw - namely a player IN AN OFFSIDE POSITION.

Did Pardew just say then that the ref was the one who actually have the offside?

he surely did. the linesman knew he was in an offside position, just didn't know if he was interfering because he's not in line and too far away. the ref himself isn't in line, so is basically guessing, but he's closer so he's the one who's said yes i think he's interfeering, thus i shall give offside.

Not a single Newcastle player in an offside position blocking the ball's path or Hart's view of it. Madness.

Blocking the balls path

He dove out of the way almost lol you on about

Rubbish, he didn't see the ball until the last minute as three City players were in his line of vision.

That might well be the case mate, but the presence of that player raises the question. He's moved out the way of the ball so it goes in, I can definitely see why the linesman has put his flag up.

disagree dan, it's more of an opinion rather than a rule this. look at the line of his view, i can see why he may think what he did, he's not directly behind it. can't be in 3 places at once.

The lino was running off to the half way line as soon as it hit the net.
