Right, by winning the league.

It's nonsense to suggest Ferguson left a turd burger of a squad for Moyes. They may not be vintage United, but they are still the champions. They should be doing a lot better than they are.

Don't forget RVP carried the side.

Also, people underestimate that mentality Fergie instilled in them. He was also one of the most astute tactical managers out there.

There's no chance a manager just strolls in and makes them challenge again for me. Whoever was in charge, they'd still struggle unless they changed drastically.

They changed arguably the greatest ever winner with someone who had won nothing (league 1 title aside). Whenever moyes tried to get them to do something fairly different to what they'd done in the past don't you think some of them would be thinking 'what have you ever won'

I'm not trying to do down the importance of the Fergie factor. Far from it: that's absolutely why they won the league. But even without him, that squad should be doing better than it is.

Yup.

United used to have the water carriers and average joes like a Wes Brown, John O'Shea, David May, Phil Neville - all won shed loads of titles - but never that many.

Even Hernandez looks like he's done.

There's defo that. I'm sure they give Moyes the benefit too. But after that City hammering, only Fergie is getting a side out of that mentally and back on track.

Moyes isnt gonna do that.

I think that squad is doing what everyone thinks it should have been doing for seasons.

Yet those very same players walked the league with ease.

Moyes is dramatically underperforming, it's as simple as that. Or, depending on your view of him, he's performing exactly as expected.

Rooney and RVP that all they have

Ferguson touched lucky winning it last time around getting a injury free season out of RVP

Moyes hasn't been as lucky

I think Ferguson was that good he had them performing above there level

Plus as I has just said having RVP injury free won them the league last season

Did they walk it or did everyone else under perform?

Mancini didn't strengthen, yet he got sacked and then they spent millions under a new manager for this season.

Chelsea are performing about the same as they were last season but playing poorer IMO.

Arsenal lost a big name, never strengthened. This season buying a world class player has boosted them a large amount.

Spurs had Bale...lost Bale....

They won the league last season IMO because:
- city signed a lot of players not good enough (hello scott Sinclair)
- Chelsea had a manager who was liked but probably a bit out of his depth when it came to winning the league and replaced him with someone who they all hate
- arsenal weren't at a title level
- ferguson

IMO they had the 3rd best squad but a combination of factors helped them win the league, but a lot of key players were pretty old and due a bit of a drop off (vidic, Ferdinand, evra, carrick, Rvp) and some plain not good enough but ferguson got the best out of them (cleverly, Valencia, nani)

Big question here is if their entire squad was available, which ones of those would barca/real/bayern/Dortmund want to buy (take into account age, wages and transfer fee)? Only one I could say is de gea really, which says a lot about their squad

ferguson didnt get luckyh with van persie,,, he managed him correctly with good fitness staff etc and trainin dedicatedto makin sure he stayed fit

moyes on the other hand.... LAPS LAPS LAPS LAPS
