And that's assuming Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, and ourselves don't strengthen. I think at least three of those teams will, and the two who may not (Chelsea and City) are already well ahead.

Exactly. They/he will get it right eventually, but anyone inheriting that squad from Fergie was always going to struggle in their first year.

RedCafe:

Our results against the "top" teams:

Manchester United 0 - 0 Chelsea (H)
Manchester United 0 - 1 Liverpool (A)
Manchester United 1 - 4 Manchester City (A)
Manchester United 1 - 1 Southampton (H)
Manchester United 1 - 0 Arsenal (H)
Manchester United 2 - 2 Tottenham (A)
Manchester United 0 - 1 Everton (H)
Manchester United 0 - 1 Newcastle (H)
Manchester United 1 - 2 Tottenham (H)

6 goals scored.
12 goals conceded.
27 points on offer, 6 points taken. 21 points dropped.

He's not good enough. We've had half a season now, and every time it looks like we're "getting better" the bubble gets burst when we play a better team and get utterly found out.

Seventh place in the league at the start of the New Year, and we deserve to be there. This has gone on too long to be anomaly now. This is where Moyes takes us. He doesn't have a clue.

Imagine if Ferguson hadn't hand picked him instructing the troops to fall in behind the unproven dullard .... instead the board convened and announced "after careful consideration the new manager is MR PERSONALITY 2013 ..... MR DAVEY MOYES!!!"

Burning effigies of the charlatan on the Stretford end would have had him out weeks ago.

Fascinating reading Redcafe and the verbatim excuses we used to get on Everton forums the exact same stuff is being churned out even down to money worries (pmsl) - it is voodoo I have no doubt about it.

The way things arr tightly packed in points terms it just takes one good result for united and one bad result for us and Liverpool to transform matters.

Of course, I know you know that, but there's *others* who see United out of a CL place right now and are dancing on a grave that isn't even there.

They played fairly well today really. There are quite a few games where I can still see them slipping up though:

Sunderland (A)
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (A)
Arsenal (A)
Palace (A)
City (H)
Liverpool (H)
Newcastle (A)
Everton (A)
Southampton (A)

Moyes always struggles to be positive against the big sides and to break down stubborn defences. Their own defence isn't as watertight as it could be either.

Van Persie might come back and score a hatfull or they might find a midfield maestro to ignite them. Surprisingly, especially for a Moyes team, I don't feel that they have enough grit, determination, organisation or doggedness to go unbeaten between now and the end of the season.

I dont fully buy into the division between 'quality' and 'smaller' teams. We all know that from week to week (especially this season) that distinction has been broken down greatly and rendered meaningless.

I wouldn't demote a win against Norwich as a soft win and failure to beat Spurs as more of a true reflection on chances to gain a CL place.

It is when every week you're struggling to put teams away and conceding goals like United are. It wouldnt be if it was a few wins and the odd blip.

Which is what I don't get when their bulb fans say Moyes' is turning them into Everton.

If United were Everton, they wouldnt be leaking goals left right and centre.

No, they're just mocking your declaration that United WILL absolutely get into the top 4 at the expense of ourselves and Liverpool.

The logical point of view is to say that they could finish in the top 4, but equally they could not. Based on current league form they're 5 points off the pace.

I absolutely do believe United will get top four. Should I not state that if that's what i think and then argue why?

Maybe I should say 'they may get top four'...but that's not what I believe will happen.

I think it's you being a bit inflexible, tbh.

It strikes me that Moyes doesn't know how to approach this job. He's forced to play 'The United way' - which is to say, Sir Alex's way. You can tell he's trying to suppress his naturally cautious approach - United fans, if nothing else, do recognise that he's throwing the kitchen sink at teams in an effort to get results. But it's just not coming off consistently enough.

United have lost four out of ten games at home. Three of those defeats have come in their last four home games.

It's very hard to spin that as showing any evidence that they will improve.

I don't think Moyes is capable of rising to this challenge - and I don't think United will finish in the top four. The competition is just too fierce. I curse fate we're showing such improvement in a season that Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, City and maybe even Spurs are all looking so good. United are lost in that mess, too.

Saying you believe it is not the same as stating it as a matter of fact, as if you've been in a DeLorean to the Summer of 2014 and already seen the table.

Doesn't surprise me though, you do it all the time. Declared there was no chance we'd beat Southampton only a few days ago.

Only a fool would, mate.

I think there's one round here somewhere...hold on, he'll be back in a minute.

They're in trouble. It all depends who they bully in January.

Plus teams like Everton shrugging them off.

If they don't get CL then their attraction diminishes. This makes them struggle more and makes it harder to try and bully teams like Everton.
