said before the start of the season, when they announced VAR wouldn't be used, that this will be their last chance to win the league for a long long time. As it's been documented, they haven't won the league since the back-pass rule was scrapped. They're still going to get dodgy decisions with VAR, of course, and i don't believe in all this conspiracy crap, but it was clear as day that they were going to get helping hands from a lot of officials this season. It's the only reason they're actually in this race, city have breezed past pretty much everyone. How many games on the trot have the RS won in the last 3 months where it's been really close and decided by large luck or a dodgy decision? There's so many. Their influence in the media is too big for refs to feel that they can deny them big decisions.
When VAR comes in, with officials given time to think things through, it's going to be a much more level playing field. If they screw up this title race i can't see them sustaining a challenge like this season.
