And yes, that's a straight red all day long, but Oliver is a terrible referee so no surprise he bottled the big decision.

If referee believes he tried to play the ball, then he's spot with a pen and yellow under the double jeopardy rule.

It's a tough one to call but I think Jones just about did enough to prove it wasn't a cynical hack. I think ref was right.
 
Dont think so. Maybe with the keeper when they've made a genuine attemp to get the ball in a similar situation.

Double jeopardy rule.

If referee believes he made an attempt to play the ball inside the box, them he is only booked and it's obviously a pen. If that challenge was made as a last man outside the box it's a straight red without question.

The debate is whether Jones did enough to show the referee he tried to play the ball. It's a tough call. But the fact he got very close to a touch probably saves him.

Yeah guess that's a fair interpretation, but for me the terrible Jones hasn't had the legs and has essentially turned his back and went for the legs with a last ditch lunge.

For me, there has to be a realistic chance that you could have got the ball and Jones never had any throughout his whole challenge.
