It's a very tough decision under the current rules. Wouldn't argue with the referee either way.

Shocking piece of defending by an experienced international defender tho.

I think it was clearly an attempt to play the ball, the fact Jones is a slow lardarse shouldn't change that :D

Here's what the laws say :

Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offending player is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off.

NO – the Law has only changed for those DOGSO offences in the penalty area where the offender makes an attempt to play the ball or challenge an opponent for the ball. The sending-off (RC) remains for: handball holding, pulling and pushing (as these offences are not an attempt to play the ball) making no attempt to play the ball e.g. a deliberate trip an offence when there was no chance/possibility of the ball being played

Good decision, would gave spoiled the game.

If it had been a small club it would have been a red.

Correct decision. Blatant. You can’t expect to get away with that.
It’s the right decision mate based on the rules.

they should bring that american bishop on at half time
