Have to say Stones was imperious (great word). The more I see of him the more I like him. Definitely England's number 1 CH going forward - probably partnered with Dier eventually.

Is it just me or has anyone noticed why Hodgson got the job? For a manager who has less success in his career than even Mclaren I think this is the reason they employed him.

Notice how many youth players have flooded into the squad since he took over? Roy was never hired to win anything, he was tasked in blooding all the youth, hence why so many young players get quick call ups rather than more senior players now.

I honestly want Dier's long-term future to be as a holding midfielder. England have absolutely no one in that area of any real quality who can be disciplined enough to fill in for rampaging defenders and have the tactical and positional nous to keep us protected. English players like him, Cattermole etc. are pretty rare and most common in foreign teams. I think he'll make a great centre half but we already have enough coming through. I think he's got a real shot at being indispensable in the future if Spurs keep playing him there.

Considering he went for OAP's in the World Cup and not youth, no.

He couldn't exactly drop all the senior players for it! Look at the squad now, 12 months on? how many youth players are in the squad now? How many times is he swapping a first team player out for an experienced one? How many young players have been handed their international debuts? Hell looking at the first 11 that have played for the team so far

Butland

Shaw/Stones/Smalling/Clyne
Sterling/ Alli / Barkely / Oxlade Chamberlain
Kane / Welbeck

How old is the oldest player there? 24? they have all been capped and could potentially be a team. And they are just off the top of my head, there is plenty more behind them as well.
