Today's Football 2014/15

CL spots are really up for grabs this year. Barring Chelsea (who appear a cut above)...and Southampton (??), all the other likely suspects, EFC included, look so goddamn ordinary. But, at the risk of repeating myself from previous posts, one fact of Premier League life you can bank on, Arsenal will make it.

But, if I was an Arsenal fan, I would be very underwhelmed by merely making CL (and getting eliminated in first knock out round) for the umpteenth year. A change at the top is required by your club

I've been saying #WengerOut since 2012 mate. You're preaching to the choir. I actually think we have been deliberately finishing 2nd in our group all these years because Wenger doesn't think we could make top 4 if we had to worry about CL quarter finals, that's my theory. It's inconceivable how we keep ending up 2nd, the fix was in. They've a lot of cash sloshing about..slosh slosh slosh from all those years of entering the CL...whilst I am happy they are now starting to spend the cash, I am not pleased that Wenger is the one in charge of transfers.

Arsenal TV was delightful this morning

They're all furious, as you'd imagine

Most of the sentiment is that "We're Arsenal, we should be beating Anderlecht!" like they're one of the top sides in Europe or something and Anderlecht are nothing

This is their 17th straight season in the CL. They have reached the final once. Making up the numbers.

True, but they're gonna be in trouble next year when the league winners all get the top seeds. Arsenal have relied on their seedings to get a decent draw and progress out of the groups. If they don't start winning the league soon they'll end up in Pot 3.

Excellent move by UEFA, brings a slight rebalancing to the name 'Champions League'. Doing well in the CL should not take precedence over winning your domestic league.

makes the normal formality of the group stage more interesting, gives new qualifiers a fairer crack, and like you say league winners get the credit they deserve (apart from celtic), rather than teams from the powerhouse leagues getting all the credit. For all the xenophobic hate of platini in this country he has tried to do some good things

Celtic wouldn't get one of the top seeds, its the best 7 leagues + 1 more league winner. Not sure how they decide it though.
