Dont disagree with you, it does seem odd. But the words coming out over here are that PV and Parish do not get on, and the training and day to day stuff at the club was seriously questioned by senior players. Club spin to favoured journos? I know not.

But either way, there was a photo of Roy, (recent) on BBC Sport today, and he didnt look "elderly", like he did when he left, he looked really really old. Proper odd move on many measures. @Alan Whittle may confirm, or not, that.
I am well on board with firing Vieira. You don't need to work hard for a reason. That team is way better than a relegation fight.

I just can't get behind hiring Hodgson. At that point just keep Vieira. I'd prefer they didn't do either myself.

6. Reset in the summer.

All in all, the jokes about ancient Roy, retirement homes etc are way off the mark. He may not do as well anywhere else, indeed, he may have refused anywhere else, but Palace is his club. He’s experienced, tough and clever. We should be ok.
Isn't that the point - you would've been OK
Or would you?
We know it's a squeaky bum time 9 team mini league with only a 4pts spread and it may yet go down to an end of May mass GD/Photo finish
Where are the Player's in all this though, had Viera 'lost them'
Has Zaha got the flip flops on already?...(he could be Injuredfor all I know)

Woy get a Win = Vindication...and all is well - 3 pts goes a long way at this stage of the season

There is a lot of competing spin over Vieira’s sacking. My take in brief;
1. Sacking Vieira is a long term mistake.
2. Vieira’s Wengeresque style didn’t sit well with a lot of people at the club, too relaxed, too even.
3. Vieira’s style of football is fine if you’re not in trouble, we are in trouble and his increasingly Mr Micawber like responses “something’s bound to turn up” at post match pressers were wearing thin.
4. Parish has panicked, probably prodded by the other Board members.
5. Roy is in the public frame but much of the actual work will be done by Paddy McCarthy, Roy will do the public face stuff, give very useful advice, stiffen morale and improve some key areas.

What did you see from Vieira that makes this a long term mistake?

I kinda think it could turn into a long term mistake based on who they hire next and what the plan is there, but to me Vieira made himself very replaceable.

I don't know too much about paddy mccarthy so i had to google him

just focusing solely on his coaching career and not his playing career, it says he began coaching at palace with their under 18's in December 2016. He had some relative success at that level and was then promoted to under 23's head coach in summer of 2021 and seems to have been doing relatively ok finishing quite high in the league table.

so the question is, is he a duncan ferguson in the making, a david unsworth in the making or a leighton baines in the making.....

I’ve done quite a bit of looking into this to be honest mate, over recent weeks.
West Ham, Palace, Everton all pretty culpable for hiring ex-players into coaching roles.

McCarthy could be excellent, I guess it will take time. Lots of the players in the Palace u21 squad are under the age of 20, which makes me think he’s already better than Unsworth.

Guess he deserves the benefit of the doubt. Whereas Unsworth’s last game of the title winning season (lost 1-2 to Liverpool), featured…

GK - Hewelt (20)
RB - Kenny (20)
CB - Feeney(18)
CB - Pennington (22)
LB - Jones (21)
RM - J Williams (21)
CM - Baningime (18)
CM - Besic (24)
LM - Charsley (21)
AM - Dowell (19)
ST - Sambou (20)

Bench was 20, 21, 19, 20 and 21.

Maybe Everton’s problem was more allowing Unsworth free reign to chase trophies Instead of developing players.

Unsworth's sides got progressively younger the more Brands got involved mate.

Everton getting the blame for global warming on the BBC News for taking short domestic flights to away fixtures.

The Kopite Propaganda Corporation dont miss a trick do they?

Its alright mate. I had me house insulated to within an inch of its life recently, (some Govt grant thing), so EFC are now carbon neutral. I will write a strongly worded letter to the BBC to set the record straight.
