Definitely better off gutting out the rest of the year with Vieira and reassessing than bringing Hodgson in.
I get binning a manager when things are going so badly that their continued presence, even without a replacement in mind, is killing morale. It doesn’t seem like that was the case with Vieira, though, and yet they’ve done it and brought back Hodgson who I absolutely refuse to believe is anybody at the club’s first choice as replacement.

Very stinky, all of this.

Do we know enough? Maybe Vieira and the top brass weren't tight anymore, maybe he had his own doubts about the direction of the club etc.

Then do a few months of Paddy and reassess then. The Roy experiment is pointless.

Dont disagree with you, it does seem odd. But the words coming out over here are that PV and Parish do not get on, and the training and day to day stuff at the club was seriously questioned by senior players. Club spin to favoured journos? I know not.

But either way, there was a photo of Roy, (recent) on BBC Sport today, and he didnt look "elderly", like he did when he left, he looked really really old. Proper odd move on many measures. @Alan Whittle may confirm, or not, that.

There is a lot of competing spin over Vieira’s sacking. My take in brief;
1. Sacking Vieira is a long term mistake.
2. Vieira’s Wengeresque style didn’t sit well with a lot of people at the club, too relaxed, too even.
3. Vieira’s style of football is fine if you’re not in trouble, we are in trouble and his increasingly Mr Micawber like responses “something’s bound to turn up” at post match pressers were wearing thin.
4. Parish has panicked, probably prodded by the other Board members.
5. Roy is in the public frame but much of the actual work will be done by Paddy McCarthy, Roy will do the public face stuff, give very useful advice, stiffen morale and improve some key areas.
6. Reset in the summer.

All in all, the jokes about ancient Roy, retirement homes etc are way off the mark. He may not do as well anywhere else, indeed, he may have refused anywhere else, but Palace is his club. He’s experienced, tough and clever. We should be ok.
