Most countries leagues have some sort of a winter break though apart from the PL.

But its not in Feb when AFCON previously took place. The problem is in Africa, the climates, rainy seasons, ridiculous temps. So tgey have to work around that.

My point is clubs know all about it and are still happy to sign African players but moan when the same players are going off to play in it.

If he's that set against it then why not use the reserves/kids? Gives them a chance at first team football and if they go out of it at any stage, its the same as not having it. Nobody is forcing any team to put out their first 11. Im sure some of Utd's kids would live to play in a cup infront of 20k, 30k fans.

Exactly, liverpool were losing in the cup round and brought on first team players. They either care or dont
