On 19 September 2021, Öztürk murdered 1 and injured 4 with his gun in a traffic dispute in Şile, Turkey. Öztürk and a friend were attempting to cross a path that was blocked by bystanders. An argument followed, and soon a fight where Öztürk pulled out a gun and shot the bystanders, before fleeing the scene. The scene was captured by cell-phone cameras and security camera, but Öztürk remains at large as of 27 September 2021.
