two very dubious decisions, one of them clearly against the spirit and the letter of the new handball rules

its as bad as our disallowed winner was a while ago
Remember that time we had them on the break, and before we could pull the trigger the ref blew the final whistle. Moyes was wanting to strangle the referee! The bias is unbelievable.

But this sums up how ridiculous it is. You cannot say someone is racist or acting in a racist without knowledge of their intent. If someone says something by accident, like when Hansen said 'coloured,' which is what he had been taught is the polite term, then I don't think it is a very good example of racism.

The incident sounds like a misunderstanding of the Romanian using HIS OWN LANGUAGE. People talk about sensitivity, there is also such a thing as oversensitivity.

Again, I think in this day and age picking someone out as “the black guy” will be deemed as racist no matter what language it’s in, no matter who finds it offensive or not. You can disagree with it but also just accept that’s the world we live in now.

Key word being ‘world’ so whether he’s Romanian and doing it or Scottish and doing it, it shouldn’t matter. Being aware of the age we live in.

Imo saying the black man isnt racist, dont get me wrong if u was an offical i wouldnt be saying it, but to me it would be like saying the tall man the small man the chubby man

i wouldnt be offended being called the white man if people needed to point me out

It's not racist.

It can be offensive to the person it's labelled at if they find it that way. That's different.

We are judging a Romanian through the prism of a Western European outlook. Due to how we are supposed to use language now, some guy from a completely different culture is going to be pilloried worldwide? For speaking in his own language?

A heated moment also.

The footage is out there, the game wasn’t restarted, someone out there found it racist. That’s all that matters.

Everyone just needs to stand back and get some perspective. But that seems impossible in the modern age of microaggressions and critical race theory.

I'm convinced I've seen a joke on Family Guy/American Dad about this exact thing, but I can't find the clip.

Anyway, seems to me the fourth official has went for what was, to him, the most obvious identifier.

It could be racist, but then if there was one white guy and a group of black guys then he could easily have said "the white guy" in the same scenario. Who knows.

On balance, I think it's subconscious racism. An overreaction too possibly but it's the times we live in, and unfortunately the word in Romanian sounds like another word in many other languages.
